Fuel pumps?

Not bike related but could be.

All electric fuel pumps I have come across click when you switch them on and stop when they get up to pressure.

I have just fitted a Facet cube pump to my narrowboat diesel as a lift pump.

I turned it on and it worked, but kept clicking. Removing pipe etc. has proved beyond doubt it is pumping so can anyone tell me if they keep clicking even when up to pressure or is it not working correctly?

I am pissed off at how many times I have filled the bilges with bloody diesel testing and changing pumps so want to get this right.

Yes, they keep running when up to pressure, this is normal.

BMW's attempt to get fuel from the tank to the injection system used a relay controlled affair.

The relays burned out and left the rider hi and dry.
The fix was to make a jumper and drive the pump direct from the battery by-passing the relay.
I think the pump was relay controlled to prevent the pump overheating.
The relay cut in or out depending what fuel pressure is sensed.

So I would guess your cube pump could still use a relay/pressure sensor to stop the pump when it is up to pressure.
Or fit a bypass/regulator valve in the line. (Bugger that.)

I've fitted a couple of these to my Landrovers and yes they do click loudly even when up to pressure.
