i`ve been usin castrol GTX for years .. from asda and later from Euro parts .. its just the price has crept up to over £20 for 4 liters and frankly i don`t think its worth the money now ... the spec on this TRIPLE QX is exactly the same and with their promotion £12-13 for 5 liters .. given i`m gonna need three containers of the stuff its quite a saving..
was just hopin some one had already used the stuff with out any problems.... and it appears it is so .. ____________________ Whatever I post I have no citation and no intention of providing one..

Wow, we haven't had a "car oil in my bike" thread for at least 6 months, was getting withdrawal symptoms...
My - Bike manufacturers recommend JASO MA spec oils for a reason. The cost of that over a cheap non JASO car oil is only a few quid so why bother? ____________________ stinkwheel: He had an animated .gif of a cat performing fellatio. It's not socially acceptable. If you're after cheap oil I am currently running Vetech 10w-40 in my TRX with no adverse effects other than increased oil consumption because it's stupidly thin (as all bargain basement oil seems to be). GSF often offer big discounts through coupons (as do Euro Car Parts, well worth a check) and you can currently get 56% off with the code PAY56 - this makes a 20L tub only £34.85.
I must concede that the feel of the gearbox is not great but then it is never great on a TRX so I can live with it, just as I can keep topping it up. No regrets until the crank shells pick up..
EDIT: ECP are also offering a decent coupon, SPOOKY80, cuts the cost of that QX stuff from £20.49 to £12.29. Not as cheap as GSF but still cheap. Both are own brands and a bit rubbish though, QX gear oil is certainly thinner than I'd like. ____________________ 1994 CB250, 1984 CBX250RS-E, 1989 K100RS, 1995 TRX850, 2016 Z250SL |

I actually have a 5L bottle of this Triple QX Semi Synth stuff in the (cold!) garage, so I went and gave it a slosh. Sure enough, it's really thin. If you're looking to cheap out you may as well get the Vetech from GSF, and maybe some ZDDP additive for peace of mind if you'll be using it long term. These are all SN/SL/whatever rated and they probably manage that by having hardly any additives in them - of course this will help keep the price down too.
I've tried Vetech, Westway (ebay), that cheap stuff from Home Bargains, some cheap bike oil from a Carrefour supermarket, Triple QX and they're all thin. Not as thin as well worn oil, but much thinner than premium oils. No side effects yet, but I haven't run a bike on just the cheap stuff for very long - I bought the Vetech for the K100 and only used it in the TRX out of desperation. The K100 also absolutely drinks it by the way, but it'll do that with any modern oil.
Up to you, really. At this price you could change it twice as often and still be quids in. ____________________ 1994 CB250, 1984 CBX250RS-E, 1989 K100RS, 1995 TRX850, 2016 Z250SL |

I've used that in my thundercat for 20k miles without issue and my gpz900 for the last 1000 (only done that many miles since buying it)
Ive been getting them on the 36% off offers. Car parts 4less is cheaper with an offer or go through the partssaver ebay seller
edit: actually 20k miles, not 15.

I use 20w-50 diesel mineral engine oil in the enfield due to its high detergent content, it's a sooty engine.
I use Automatic transmission fluid in the primary drive. The clutch does not slip.
I use Halfords own brand 10w-40 car oil in the VFR750 which specifies SG grade. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
