I am looking to get a new exhaust on my Honda CBR650F as I fancy making a bit more noise when riding around. I am interested in the two brothers pipe:

https://www.twobros.com/collections/sport-exhaust/products/honda-cbr650f-2014-2015-full-exhaust

It however says that it is a track only system. How do other bikers get around this, as I have seen and more to the point heard plenty of bikes on my rides that have noisy exhausts. Is it a case of slipping baffles in and out? When it comes to MOT time, do you have to change the system and put the old one on?

I remember putting a straight through exhaust on my Impreza back in the day and every year for the MOT it needed taking off and the old one putting on. Made a flipping racket.

So, how do you run an aftermarket exhaust on UK roads?

If it visibly states "not for road use" or similar, then it will fail an MOT. I would buy a road legal one if it were me, but you can cover up (or grind off) the track use label if you want. Some places will give an advisory for loud exhaust, and some will not.

If it's excessively loud, MOT or not, and you want it quieter then you'll have to check if it comes with a baffle or if ones are available as extras.

My two brothers was loud (advisory on MOT) but for the sake of my neighbors I fitted a Powertip DB killer. It's not a baffle, so only quietens it marginally, but now it has the right amount of volume and a good tone.

I fit it and ride.

Not a problem. Thumbs Up

Electrical tape or fine sanding and a polish up.

Thanks guys. So am I right in assuming it is more the noise of the system that is the problem as opposed to it changing the emissions? From the videos I have found of the two brothers exhaust on my bike, it doesn't seem like a window breaker!

For that price, I would expect it to extend a robot hand and bribe the MOT man with a bag of gold.

There is no emissions test.

Yet.

However it'll be noise related. I'd not worry. I would worry about the cost of the exhaust, didn't see that before. Sick

For that sort of money I'd be looking at Akrapovic, which generally are E-Marked or stamped as "road legal".

Akrapovic offer road and race for that machine. Road is more expensive (because homologation costs).

I don’t like the sound of the under bike akrapovic, and the other one is swing arm mounted which I don’t like the look of. I drove around in my Impreza years ago with a very loud, very illegal pipe. Went to car shows, burnouts round the local retail park, etc. Not a hint of bother off plod, so it’s not so much the police side of things I’m stressed about, it’s the hassle of mot’s mainly in that it was a day excursion to the specialist and a lot of extra money swapping the systems around. I have no idea how this works on a bike though. I can’t be keeping a spare exhaust pipe in the hallway. The mrs will go mental

Assume wrong, my plate is legit. Laughing correct size don't and spacing bro.

Then again, I can also ride any bike without dropping it. No height issues here. Just noise ones, I like noise. None of my exhausts would ever be considered road legal but I've not had a tug in 9 years. My triple was deafening.

Find the right MOT place and a noisy pipe won't be a problem.

Hint: If they fail you for "Not For Road Use" then you're not at the right one.

This is true. I have no idea what the current exhange rate is.

Maybe a 2nd-hand Akra system for half that money then.
