Two GPZ500s for only ?1,000 !

Looking for your first big bike? I have a good deal for anyone who doesn’t want to break the bank and is not averse to doing a wee bit of work to put a bike on the road.

What we have are two Kawasaki GPZ500s. One is a good runner and mechainicaly sound but has cosmetic issues, the other is getting a bit ratty and tired but has a tip-top motor in it.

The first one is a 1990 GPZ500s. It has 25k miles on the clock. I bought this bike last Autumn to fill in ‘till I got my main bike on the road. It has over 6months tax and MOT left on it. This bike is a good runner. It has done three long runs since I bought it and never missed a beat, burns no oil. The bike starts straight away off the button and handles as well as any GPZ500 I have ridden. Mechanically it is everything it should be with a good clean engine, a reasonable amount left on the tyres and even has an original kawasaki exhaust system on it.

Downsides. It was painted in a particularly 1980s style by the previous owner, so it is blue and yellow with yellow powdercoated wheels. The other thing is that I loaned it to my mate a few weeks ago and he came off it. I was there when it happened and it was a very low speed getoff, just overbraked on a greasy road when a car in front slammed on the brakes without warning and it went down with him going over the bars. Unfortunatley, he took the top-fairing with him as he went over so the list of damage is: Smashed top-fairing, broken clock cover, missing speedo needle, both mirrors off, both front indicators, one back indicator with a crack in the mudguard and some scuffing on the bar-end and the end-can on one side. He continued on the run with no problem whatsoever, the bike is straight (it didn’t hit anything) and still runs sweet as a nut. I would happily jump on this bike and ride it anywhere in the UK with every confidence it would get me there in a hassle free manner.

The second bike is a 1994 GPZ500s, one of the newer models. I owned this bike for a long time and have done many miles on it. I gave it to my mate (the one who crashed my other one) and he has run it for the last couple of years. This bike has done 55k miles and is frankly, getting a bit tired as you would expect from a high mileage bike that has been used all year round. I have been off it a couple of times so the plastics are all there but there is a fair bit of fiberglass filler about the place. We are selling it because it is starting to develop little niggles that mean you aren’t confident it is going to start when you go out to it (stupid things like corroded terminals or stale fuel).

On the plus side the engine has been rebuilt within the last 5k miles. Full top-end job, out to the first rebore, valve stem oil seals, new gaskets and the head skimmed and polished by hand (by me). The cams and valvegear are like new as the bike has religiously had an oil and filter change every 3,000miles.


There are several possibilities for what to do, the first one is just about worth repairing, it is a functional motorcycle that does everything it should. Streetfightering it would probably be an option too and keep the other bike as a set of spares. The second bike will fix up, but would need stripping down, cleaning up and the wiring and fuel system to be given a good going over. Frankly what I would do is clean all that up then go over the thing with a pot of matt black paint and run it into the ground as a hack.

Between the two, you would be able to get a good running bike and a lot of spares.

I don’t really need to sell these bikes, they are just getting under the feet now and I would rather someone got the use of them. As such I have been as full as possible in my description. I also believe the price of £1,000 to be a good one for what you are getting so if you want them, pay the money then come and take them away. I will accept cold hard cash as payment which can be handed over when you pick up the bikes. I will not entertain sending them anywhere nor will I accept any form of bankers draught or international money transfer so don’t ask, refusal will be offensive.

Lol heard about these scammers mate.. They give you a cheque for more than you have in your bank then something cocks up and it takes that amount e.g. 3500 out of your account and into theirs..

Dont ask me hows its done, it was on a site were 2 ppl pretending to be other people and caught these guys out...
