Whats everyones opinions on the new Yam fazer.

personally I think it looks great, much more modern in keeping with todays pretentious trends etc, but have heard not as good to ride - especially mid range.

I personally think the older one looks quite dated now.

Question

Sat on a new one today, and although it was bolted to the ground, It just seemed so boring and plain to me. Very characterless.....it's lost that bite which it once used to have.

Which one? Thou or 600?

Always liked the look of the 600. Perhaps something to move onto in a few years.

I've got the new sort and didn't try an old type one so can't really comment on what they're like.

I love mine to bits as its comfortable, easy to ride, quick enough for me to start on and use for at least another couple of years, probably more. Does everything I wanted in a first big bike and I plan on riding around the UK more and more this year.

However, there is a flat spot in power delivery between 8000 and 10000 rpm, which I didn't notice fully until I had run it in. I think a decent set of better cans on the back might solve a little bit of this though and I'm looking into getting some in the summer (Funds permitting!)

The brakes are meant to be better on the old ones as they're lifted from the R1, but mine feel great fro what I do and a set of braided hoses would bring them up to another level, so probably not quite so much of a inderence either.

The new one definately looks a damn sight better than the old one and I've also been told that the lights on the old one were crap, so riding at night could be a bit of a bind. Mine are fantastic though, so I guess its something Yamaha looked at.

Cracking digi clocks give it a very modern look and feel and I can't fault it for what I wanted it for, learning to ride properly after passing my DAS and something that can do everything.

I've got an '04 model as well, and love the little thing to pieces. Again, it's my first big bike after my little 100cc scooter, and it goes like the proverbial bomb. Still not using it to it's full potential, and yet having a blast anyway.

Adam P has said it all far more eloquently than I could, so I shan't go on, except to say it looks much nicer than the old style one, which I was looking at.

My only real beef with it is the single light on dipped, which looks like it's got a bulb out. I've found a mod for having both on when dipped, which I will attempt after my nights when I have time to go out and get the wires etc needed.

The old ones are far better, the underseat exhausts don't really do it for me unless they are on an out and out sportsbike, and even then they are hit and miss.
