It was inevitable really wasn't it? If Bendy's video is anything to go by, there're often hordes of people on both sides with people stunting (not always very well) up the middle. Someone was going to get hurt eventually. Let's just hope they catch the guy who did it and then ran away. Thumbs Down

It was bound to happen at some point.

This case, then yeah completely the riders fault, and such a twat for running off.

However... people are asking for it really by standing so close to the road, you get people running across to the other side all the time and just so many people everywhere... Same with the bassetts accident.

People wouldn't go and stand on the outside of a corner at a race track to watch Moto GP would they? If they did they'd be asking to get hit.

Just my opinion really.. it's 100% the riders fault for the accident, but the crowd don't do any favours as far as safetys concerned, all they gotta do is stand back a few feet away from the road and those kids *might* not have got hurt (maybe they still would have... who knows.)

Yeah it really was an accident waiting to happen. I have enjoyed watching them so it would be hypocritical of me to criticise the stunters too much, but running away afterwards is just low. Sad Thumbs Down

I hate the thought of a wee kiddie lying there with two broken legs screaming in pain. Crying or Very sad

I've been through this type of conversation before, I fail to see how its the spectators fault that some dude on a bike can't wheelie properly and loses it into the crowd. In the Bassets pole case it turns out the rider had no insurance, license, MOT or tax, he shouldn't have even been on the road but managed to kill a woman, class A prick.

In this case we don't know any details about the rider yet but running off when he has just broken a 12 year olds legs and left another one unconcious, thats low, really low, he should have both of his legs broken for that.

If you want to go and do stunts on a crowded street you have to take a certain amount of responsibility for your actions, its not as if he will get away with it as the van details were handed in, running away has just made it worse for him self. The rider got a broken arm anyway, it wouldn't be hard to find out who went to hospital with a broken arm that day between the hours of it happening etc.

It's not the spectators fault, but you've said exactly why they should not crowd the road.. because they don't know if people out their doing stunts can ACTUALLY do them in full control. Thus people should really think, are these pros? No... will they maybe lose it into the crowd? yes... I think I'll stand back a bit in case one of these stunters is just a bit psyced up with all the people around, and doing stuff he/she can't really do.

I'm all for stunting, I love watching it etc.. and don't want to see it out-lawed because of the odd person has an accident and hurts someone.... it's the same as knee down on roundabouts/roads etc.

As I say, It's not the spectators FAULTS but spectators really don't make it easy for themselves Confused

Same with rally driving really as some of the specs stand in such stupid places then moan when they get hit Rolling Eyes

Yes but both of these spectators were very young. I heard that one was twelve.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

You would have to stand pretty far back to be completely sure that the bike doing power wheelies at 50/60mph won't slide into you.

I love seeing wheelies just as much as the next person, its one of the main reasons that I go to one of the bike meets in summer, I watch a few people out there who can really wheelie, they're stable and I've seen them wheelie hundreds of times but then you have the people who decide they want to wheelie as well who are totally crap, if you can't control it properly don't do it, unless you are perfectly willing to stand and wait for the police turn up when you've just killed somebody because you lost control.

I saw a 600RR doing wheelies at one of the meets and he was all over the place, me and pho immediately walked away and watched from a good distance away, I think we were the only ones who did though. A lot of people who go there are kids, they want to see the wheelies more than anybody else, they don't have the sense to walk away when somebody looks a bit dodgy, if you stacked a wheelie into a crowd and broke a 12 year olds legs would you really point the finger at the the kid and say it was his fault for standing on the pavement?

It's also a public road, whereas WRC and other events are normally on restricted closed roads. Hence driving without due care and attention, not being in control of your vehicle, or stunting full stop is of dubious legality anyway. Add the pedestrians having right of way to that, and especially if they were on the pavements, then you've got a bit of shitstorm to dodge as a rider stunting there.

i think as a spectator you have to think about where you stand and "what if he comes off?" i'd best not stand there.
Like Bassets Pole last year, the bloke was in the wrong, Did'nt have a licence/insurance/m.o.t like you said shaun, but he had been riding 10 years so if he had all of those the woman would still be dead, but if she was standing the other side of the fence in Mcdonalds car park, then chances are she would of gone home and told her frields that someone through his bike down the road just meters infront of her!

You've goto look after yourself (alough kids are a different thing)

If he hadn't been completely and totally illegal riding on the road she would've gone home and said she'd had a good night!

Once again, I said it isnt their fualt they just dont make it easy, but yes you're right that kids dont have the sense (nor some adults)

but then this is why they should make proper oragnised events wherer people can stunt in front of the public in (relative) safety.. witth barriers up at safe distances to keep the crowd in more safety (not total safety, but more) and then they can regulate how many people are out stunting at once, have first aiders/ambulance on the scene if anyone has an accident.

IMO that'd save a lot of lives and be much more enjoyable.. heck I'd even pay to attend such an event.

Shame the UK can't be as good as other countries as far as bikes are concerned Sad

And? People still stand in stupid places and moan when they get hurt!

The only difference is the event... I'm on about spectators here.

It will never really be the specs fault unless they run out in front or something.. but like ant says, you gotta look out for yourself.. don't trust that the person wheelying about can do it in full safety, as you dont know... step back... even if no one else steps back.. at least you'll have a lesser chance of getting hit...

pavements are for people! why should they have to be carefull were they stand in a public place? i love the idea of bikers being able to have a good meet and all the fun that goes with it but at the end of the day its a public place and there are certain guide lines that should be respected ,thats my bit of dribble over plus its only my opinion guys. Thumbs Up
btw hope the twat gets whats comming and the kids are gonna be ok!
Thumbs Up

edit. thinks like this will only hasten the biker hate and anti bikers out there.THE END IS NIGH!

100% agree with yams. If watching this stunt I would automatically assume to myself that anything can happen and to be prepared for the worst.

The bendy video showed just how daft the crowd was organised/spread out.

This incident can't mean anything good for the ace cafe meet. If tehre will ever be one again.

The kid was 12 years old for fuck sake, the safety aspect of it all wouldn't reallt cross a childs mind that this guy was out there trying to make his penis bigger despite the fact he couldn't actually wheelie very well at all.

I read on visordown that the guy didn't seem very confident in his own ability and a lot of his stunts were very dodgy and you could see fear in his face half the time, the rider shouldn't of being doing wheelies if he wasn't even confident in his own ability.

I know this is a bike forum and bikers should stick together and everything but theres a line, he crossed it when those 2 kids flew in the air!

Should the Ace cafe and the police take some responsibility for safety? They know this goes on and know that there WILL be an accident. Don't want to be a killjoy but stunts like this on public roads are always going to attract spectators and always going to have some numpty who will stack it into the crowd. As for sticking together, you crash it, take responsibility. The guy that stacked also had his daughter there, wonder if he would have done a runner if it was her he had hit?

I don't think the cae cafe should be held responsible at all if they aren't shown to promote such behavoir...(do they? I dont know...)

Police, no, they can't be everywhere can they...

I am not saying they should be held responsible but, they know this will happen at certain meets, such as this. Have you ever seen a sign at the Ace saying don't do it? I haven't. The Ace have a responsibility, moral if nothing else, to make sure that people are safe. Not saying they encourage it but it is not disgouraged either. The Police and local council know it will happen also, end result...closure of the Ace possibly. One possibility may be traffic calming. I enjoy stunts as much as anyone else, but this is not the place to do them, today proved that (think Bassets Pole).

Ideally people should do them on a safe and controlled environment but since that isn't possible, an empty industrial estate, a road that isn't used, bassically somewhere where there isn't a crowd of people standing at the side of the road.

A thought; were the kids standing out in the road?

At the Streetfighters Day last year I heard one bloke say to another "that's so dangerous he almost hit us", as an r1 flew past slightly out of control one wheel.

He was standing pretty much in the middle of that side of the road.

Personally I think people should at least consider the danger they are putting them selves in. If they had done the same on a road without bikes doing stunts, they may well have had a near miss with a car.

I'm sure people must be aware of the risks, but choose to ignore them.

yep, people do put themselves in danger, but 12 year olds? They would not even consider it. If there parents/guardians were there I don't know, they may just have been local kids. But anyone who does stunts at meets like this knows the risks. A good percentage of them do not have the ability and just want to show off so are pretty much doomed from the start. People will always watch it standing in stupid places, but it does not make it right that it should go on. Have a look at what Shaun said...

Thats really poor of the guy to go running off after injuring some little kids. Everone keeps mentioning it, but ive never heard of it before, what happened at Bassets Pole? I hope the kids that got hit are ok, can the guy loose his license for what he done? Does that count as injury caused by dangerous driving (or is that just cars)?
