I've been toying with the idea of starting a web hosting company for a while now, but I need a gimmick to sell the hosting, considering there are a million companies out there.

I'm thinking something along the lines of bikepics.com but you get a website, something along the lines of www.bikeprofiles.com/Gazdaman/ to which you can add pics of your bike, lists of modifications etc, details, all of which is free, but you get a pop-up-ad.

If you pay say, I dunno, £2 a month you can get rid of the ad.

Maybe it's a stupid idea I don't know. But it'd be a nice thing to have in your sig, kinda like people have links to their bikes on bikepics, but this would be more focussed to your bike, and would mean it would have its own kind of free website.

Feel free to shoot me down in flames.

Surely you have just described www.bikepics.com ?

Or have I missed the point?

I don't know, in my head I was thinking, a picture, with a description, lists of modifications.

Kinda like bikepics, but more focussed to yours.

I suppose there is large competition.

yeh but this would be like, forum orientated, and would list everyones bike, top mph, 0-60 all that crap, any mods, like a review of ur bike and stu ff so peeps can find out what bike suits them. good idea just for forum i think. i assume there will be opertunities to add home mad vids? stuff like that, also tips and tricks about the bike. so instead of flooding the forum with, how to do things. if u know someone got the same bike, look it up and might offer relivant information. bike pics is purely pics, and u dont really get a good indepth feel about the bike. as with this u get to know the ins and outs.

But you would also get too many opinions from bias bikers who have only ever owned one bike and therefore have no comparisons.

Nice idea if it'll work (or not already been done). Thumbs Up

So, I'm not the only one who rolls my eyes everytime I see that then?

"Get a XYZ600, they're the best 600s."
"How many of the other 600s have you ridden?"
"Err... none of them."

Together with the usual "My RS125 does 140mph" bollocks.

Agreed. I like the idea in principal, but it needs something a bit different.

I do agree it is a good concept.

What your're talking about is like a 'bikepics plus' in a way.

If it worked it could be a massive online resource guide. Maybe you should make a poll?

https://www.bikez.com

with pics and all the tech information, but this would be forum based and would have like ideas for modifications, wether they worked or not, best places to buy parts and such. again good concept. defo make it into a poll

Simple...

Create a 'My Ride' Forum Catagory.

Rules are you are only allowed:

A Description of the bike. Specs.
Picture.

Simple.

Bandito, I want to host this all on my hardware. and my expertise.

The phrase 'bikepics plus' sums it up pretty much. It would allow you to go into more detail and would be your bike alone, like a personal website for your bike.

I'll see how it goes, may draw up a few designs and come back to you guys.

There's not enough profit /service involved to make it successful when you already have well established companies / websites doing the same.

Good idea though, just about 5 years too late.
