2018 British Mini Bike Championship

So after having an awesome year in the 2017 Championship, finishing 2nd overall in the Pit bike Open class on the 190 Daytona Mini Pit.
I've decided to build a 2018 bike to run the in the Stock Classes.

Based around a Stomp KZR, but with shortened billet swing arm for better turn in speed, a re-located shock mount for a more liniar shock angle, and allowing me to run a 290mm shock rather than the 360mm shock that comes with the KZR.

Building the bike on a bit of a budget as Cassie and I have a new arrival to the family. But nonetheless, it'll be a very capable bike and looking to have an awesome season on it.

First round is last weekend in March. Rumor as it that it's being held at the Teesside Autodrone, but race dates have not been officially released yet.

It'd be cool to see a few BCFers at the rounds. I know loads of you are capable of riding fast, and the championship is a very affordable way into motorsport.

I've heard the organizers are trying to keep the dates from clashing with the BSB, as there are a few BSB boys who enter the British Mini Bikes rounds when the weekends dont clash. And it makes for FUCKING awesome spectating. Cool

My 2018 frame is away at the fabricators now having the new shock mount welded up. And then it's going away for powder coating;

And one of my good pals I've raced with for about 9 years has just been signed by South-Coast Honda for the 2018 season.

Well the 2018 calendar has been released and other than 1 round at Lydd and a couple of Whilton Mill rounds, the rest of the season is being held up north. Like, really up north!

Two rounds at the Three-Sisters in Wiigan, a round at Teesside, a round at Rowrah (Cumbria), and Fullbeck.

I will be giving Rowrah a miss as it literally took us 10 hours to tow the caravan there this season, and it did nothing but piss it down all weekend.

I'll try and make 1 of the 2 rounds at Three-Sisters.
Whilton Mill and Lydd wont be a problem.

So, to keep my year populated with racing, I took a look at Cool-Fab and Nora-Sport's 2018 Championships.

Cool-Fab have a round at Red-Lodge, which is only an hour and 45 mins from me.
And Nora-Sport at holding a round at Lydden Hill, which is literally down the road from me. Mr. Green

So keep an eye out for a bloody awesome season. Cant Wait!

Made a healthy 13.5bhp on the rollers.
Power drops away at about 6.5k rpm though, I've a feeling it's the ignition as it sounds like it's pinking / pre-ignition.

Next stop is OORacing for a go on their dyno, and let Adrian make some adjustments to get it running smooth right through the rev range.

Seeing as the weather has improved, and our choice of SM tracks in the south east is appalling, I decided to go to the dark side, as I've got about 4 MX tracks within a 20 minute drive from me here.

The little bike is for Austin when he's a little bit older. It's more or less built out of all the old parts from my 2017 race bike as I upgraded it over the year.
Just with shorter forks, and a cut-down rear shock.
Size difference in the two bikes. Mad to think I was racing that little thing last year. Laughing

So, the time has come.
Signed on for Whilton Mill Rnd 3 next weekend. (BMB)
Lydden Hill (Norasport) the weekend after.
And then Three Sisters Rnd 4 (BMB) the weekend after that. Laughing

Mrs isnt impressed.

Lydden hill is under Nora, so they are running proper supermoto type circuit. 30% dirt and a jump.
Having never ridden on dirt, I decided to whip the bike down to Sammy Slides MX track and have a go.
After I got the hang of sliding around on MX wheels. I stuck my spoked wheels with Blackfire semi-slicks on, and did a few laps.
My God, there is fuck all grip on the front.
Then the following day, back in SM trim, and up to Whilton for an evening session. Bike rides nice. Lot of setting up is needed, and a lot of getting used to being back on a bigger bike. But I feel happy with it.

Whilton Mill was shit.
Track time was a bit on the short side.
Somebody's oil cooler came off during qualify and fucked the track for everyone.
Had a shit weekend, didnt like the bike.
Came home, sold it. Laughing

However, I do have a spare YX140 engine, and I do have a CRF50 and some old slicks in the shed. So I will be throwing a little ripper together to attend Lydd.
But as far as the british championship goes, that's about the extent of my attendance from now I think.

Caravan is up for sale, and I'll be buying a CRF450 with the money. Cool

You have built some very impressive and awesome pit bike racers though, including a left field smoker, and managed to get it entered into a race class that while it ran would keep a CRF150 at bay. Not to mention the very strong results you have had several times on your race bikes. I think there's alot of achievement there and then some!

A CRF450 does sound like fun though, are you getting into MX racing or will it be converted to SM spec for tarmac events?
