Just a little poll to make a point. A question was posed in the New Bikers section, 'Why do people always say you'll drop your first bike?' I don't know anyone who didn't drop it, unless they'd started on a scooter, and even then there're plenty who have dumped their scooter.
The way CBT teaches people to take their bike off the centre stand must be the classic, where the bike gets off balance and slowly topples over sideways.
As for me, I've dropped mine too many times to remember, mainly gracefully toppling over in the first few months, or whilst manhandling it and slipping. T'is what an unfaired cheap 125 is for. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

Dropped mine off the stand a couple of times, lets just hope I don't drop the Bandit hey. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Dropped mines twice in a week! First time doing a U-turn but saved it by wedging myself between bike and road! The second time was 1 weeks later as I lost balance pushing it into the garage, axel stand put a nice crack in my fairing!
Need to be more careful! ____________________ Old bikes >>> https://www.bikepics.com/members/cc123/ |

I waited until bike three.
Though I did drop the SR on my CBT while trying to get it onto the centre stand on a slope. |

I never dropped my first bike, but I did smash it
Dropped my last CBR twice - but that was due to height issues, slippy drives and baggy leathers ____________________ Avast! Pirates ahoy!

My MZ supermoto is the only bike I haven't dropped at some point. It has however contrived to fall off its stand three times, I don't count these as dropping because I was nowhere near it at the time. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. Dropped the GS a couple of times. Once involved diesel and the other was at about 2 mph hitting the curb into my drive at an angle in the wet. lesson learnt. Havnt dropped the enfield yet, been close a few times though. ____________________ I love the girls that do, I hate the girls that dont, I hate the girls who say they will and then they say they wont, but the girl I like most of all and I think youll say Im right, is the girl who says she never has but looks as though she might. - Max Bygraves |

Well I haven't actually dropped any of MY bikes, just the GS on my DAS - 4 times !!
1. Trying to flick the side stand up whilst standing next to it
same day
2/ Stopping at TL on a very steep slope
3/ Turning right out of a junction
4/ On morning of test, whilst doing a U-turn, suffice to say I failed on my U-turn, half an hour later. |

ive dropped my varadeo 125 twice, both times with a full tank of fuel, so weighing 160kg and considering i can hardly touch the floor it wasnt surprising .. only thing that broke was the clutch lever curled up (£11) and a few more scratches to add to the previous owner's ones.
i dropped my RX50 aprilia so many times i lost count, both off road and on, as i was on one tip toe on that...if i stopped at lights and the ground slopped away i had no chance ...that had a centre stand, andi can remeber being taught how to ''safely'' tkae it off the centre stond in my cbt...and nearly dropping it..my method worked so much better, i showed the instructor this, he agreed and let me carry on
lets hope i dont drop the nsr...but compared to my last two bikes its tiny and weighs nothing...

Judging by the results maybe the thread should have been...How many times did/have you dropped your first bike.
Only the once under normal conditions, and about 5 times playing silly buggers in the snow, trying to corner speedway style on an RD125,very silly bit seemed like a good idea at the time ____________________ Nothing gets the point across quite like a raised middle digit.

I've dropped mine 3 times, each time stationary, and each time because it is heavy and I got the balance wrong and simply could not hold it up!
........and over it goes, just like slow motion ____________________ Richard

well my bike is abused, so its hardly ever the right side up.
i fall off it pretty much every time i get it out, thats not from not being able to ride, its from pushing the bike way to hard and trying to get my knee down on 2 inch road tyres on mud tracks
