just wanted to know if you lot knew of some good twist and go bikes (not minimoto) as i only know of the DNA (which isnt ment to be much good... aparently)
only want to know as well... its the 14th and i took my cbt today on a geared 125 (honda cg125, was also the first time iv been on a bike) and didnt "pass" because of clutch and gear control (i still maintain that the gear stick was dodgy ) but the instructor said i would have passed if i was on a ped (same with my mate who just happend to be taking it the same day so atleast im not the only one) and its just the gears and clutch i need to practise on, so as i dont have a bike to prictise on nor do i know anywhere to practise to and to save me money im thinking of getting a twist and go bike (not a ped) for several months or a year and then getting a 125 later and practise on that when i have more options available (ie. somewhere to actually practise to) and this seems the quickest way to my own personal transport.
so any ideas?
thanks in advance to anyone who posts and sorry for the really long post |

DNA aint bad, it gets you into a 'proper' riding position for corners etc, but there are loads that are pretty nackered.
By the way you wont fool anybody if you say my "bike" is really great, they just say 'its a scooter'
Have another go, youl get it in the end.
The DNA125 is pretty underpowered and anybody over 5ft 10 cannot ride one
I almost got a dna125 as I was having trouble learning gears, it didnt really help that i fell off my bike which scared me half to death, so as well as being a numpty and not knowing what to do, I was scared of going into the high revs.
I say have another go, try again ____________________ DNA50 (sorry) ->> TZR125l >> GPZ500S |

Get someone with a 125 or 50 geared bike to teach you gears. I learned them when I was younger on a KX80 scrambler. ____________________ Northern Irish? www.nibikers.com |

well im currently thinking about finishing the cbt on a ped and "passing" it and picking up a cheap cg125 or something like that for under a grand, another thing aswell, most the time iv heard people bashing the cg saying its not fast enough and all, i dont know if the 1 i was on was modified or not but it went alright could have probably done 0 - 60 in 10 seconds (which id guess for a 4 stroke isnt that bad) and as iv said in previous posts, i cant get anyone with a geared bike to practise on because i dont know anyone with a bike let alone anyone that would let me anywhere near it |

Surely the CBT is a one-off fee until you pass affair? It always used to be.
That being the case, keep going and using their instructors and their bikes until they have taught you to ride a geared bike safely on the road.
Otherwise,may I suggest the ideal compromise between a scooter and a motorbike. Honda Cub 90 or the more modern Innova 125. You get the best of both worlds. They are twist and go so no clutch to worry about but have gears so you gain experience using them.
The innova is a nice little bike actually, 125cc engine with a 4-speed "heel-toe", semi-auto gearbox, telescopic forks and disc brake. Insurance will be dirt cheap too. Unlike other scooter type bikes, these handle like a proper motorbike with footpegs, large wheels and a foot operated rear brake. They also do monster wheelies when you get the knack The worlds only indestructable bike, mate of mine spent two hours trying to deliberatley blow one up and failed.

You know, if you take the CBT on a moped, then you can ride a geared 125 bike all you like. It's a bit nonsensical, but it's allowed.
I finished my CBT on a 'ped as they'd managed to sell one of the 125's the day after. Made it easier by far, and gears were fairly easy really, once I'd stopped being scared of trashing the thing. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

If you need to, do it on a twist and go and then get a geared bike anyway. I did my cbt and have nearly finished my first year on a tiny Honda pxr-50 and will be graduating to an MZ supermoto with 10 times the power and 6 gears with no training whatsoever. . I'm gonna die....
Gears should only take you a few minutes to get used to, but are different on each bike. Get a proper geared bike first, then learn about the gears on it and use it to 'pass' the CBT (I didn't know you could fail ) ____________________ Bikes: too many, too much for one man to maintain anyway. |

If your going to get a dna, a few things to remember:
The 'tank' (helmet holder) snaps off its hinges easily, so watch out for that.
Have a drive around on one first, you might like it, but i found it very small.
The headlights are absolutely shite, honestly, the taillight is even worse.
Watch out for bad starters and test ride it for a loooooong time as ive heard that some can cut out eventually.
The engine is on the swingarm, so watch out for oversteer when doing corners.
Avoid ones with neons on.  ____________________ DNA50 (sorry) ->> TZR125l >> GPZ500S |

I agree, i use that for pizza deliveries. The added weight of the pizza's help as well. Balance Point is easy to get to and maintain Not that you'd ever need to wheelie.
Only bad thing is gears are one up 3 down |
