I have been told that to change the Air filter from a standard factory fitted one will increase performance and is worth upgrading. I know nothing about the procedure on how to do this, other than it a fine art of fitting the air filter and then choosing the right Carb jets! Smile ( From what I have read I think I need to purchase a selection.)

I would really appreciate it, if someone could provide guidance on the following...

A. Suggest A good Ait Filter for Looks and Performace.
B. Tell me what I need e.g. Do I need any carb gaskets if taking the carb apart what jet sizes to purchase.
C. How do I tell if I have the right jet fitted, is it determined by the condition of the Spark Plug?

My Current Carb is
Made in Italy
Phva 17.5 Dellorto

Like I said any dummy guide or advise will be very appreciated. Thumbs Up

If you want my opinion an open filter on a standard carb is not worth doing. But if you must then you have to upjet by about 10% and keep and eye on the plug colour. Aim high and work down carefully with jets. I doubt you will gain much if any performance, you may even loose a bit.
As for filters I have a Polini filter, that I call a "wind sock" Very Happy When I put my new carb on I will probably get a ram air filter as the Polini won't fit over the mouth of it.

Thanks for the info, so what your saying it not really worth doing on a standard Carb. Confused I need to upgrade my carb and filter to get a performance change?

What is the standard jet on my Carb, does anyone know?

PS. Looks nice
Smile

Haynes maual says 83 mainjet. If your going to do it get a 21mm carb and then get a filter for that.

Is it just a matter of swapping the carb over and filter. What make do you suggest for a 21mm Carb.

Its a 100cc ped.

Any tuning is going to be a waste of cash.

Your 17+ to be riding it legally, so you're old enough to do your test and get a bigger bike.

I’m well past 17 Laughing and do intend to take my bike test Cool . The only reason I bought this speedfight was for road experience before jumping on a 600cc. But modding the bike had become a bit of a hobby and I just wanted a bit of advice on which filter to purchase and the best way to fit it. Ok then let say performance is not an issure which filter do you suggest to buy to look good and with this just fit on my bike without touching the filter. Confused

What? Measure the diameter of the mouth of the carb and then order a filter that will fit that size. If you just fit the filter it will run lean and the sieze the bike. So you will need the bigger jets. I think its a bit pointless doing it to a carb as small as that but then its not my bike, so do as you wish.
