I loved the STR but after half an hour my legs felt cramped and my frame never felt comfortable on it - I'm 6ft 3 with a lot of the height in my legs.
Ideally I'd like something similar but that fits me. |
I'm not especially tall but have a dodgy knee that hates being cramped for long periods of time. I've ridden both
the STR and MT09. The 09 is your bike at 6 foot 3, especially the Sport Tracker variant as it has a higher seat than
the more common base model. It's also far more of a brute than a Striple, that's the main reason I bought the Yamaha
over the Triumph. Money wasn't an issue really, although I got brand new Yamaha for the same as I'd allocated for used
Triumph, so 3 years MOT free then. Take a demonstrator out for a test ride somewhere and you'll see what I mean.
Can't comment on the latest variant of MT09 as I haven't ridden one yet. Basically the same with slightly better
suspension, a LED headlight and a quick (up) shifter. Oh and I saw a KTM 90 being recovered on the back
of an entirely oversized truck last night. I guess another KTM stopped working for no reason It hadn't been crashed. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

That's funny, the guy from Fowlers who collected my bike in their van for a bit of work last year said he picks up
more dead KTMs than any other marque. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

A contender for "the best bike that nobody buys". Under 1000 sold in 8 years, but might be worth a look if you can find one. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Then it doesn't ride like an MT09. The crazy is what made me buy one. Having also ridden it's more powerful brother the
MT10 i can safely say that while it's undoubtedly faster and more powerful, it's also considerably more civilised than it's
unruly punk rocker younger brother. Unlike the R1 derived MT10, the MT09 was built from the ground up to be a beast
of a thing, I think even Yamaha thought the original MT09 was too much as with every 'variant' since they've attempted to
make it more user friendly. Mine is one of the last without TC for instance. All I have are the throttle modes and ABS.
The latest ones have quickshifter, more compliant suspension, TC, and altered mapping to calm them down a bit.
I've not tried one of the latest 09's, I can't really see the point, the quickshifter would be fun I suppose but ultimately
they are slowly but surely making it safer™ because nanny state. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha
