Right Handers

Is it just me or is a right hander a more difficult encounter than a left bend? I think it must be because there isnt a physical barrier on a left hander if you run wide. Im very quick into left handers and i have no problem throwing the bike down but on right handers im more upright and tend to scrub off more speed. Its not a problem on roundabouts

Any tips?

I know a few people who struggle on left handers, and I put that down to the fact that everyone gets so much practice on right handers at roundabouts. Doesn't really answer your question, I know.

Possibly because of the throttle being on that side and it being slightly more difficult to control smoothly... thats how it is for me doing U turns, so usually go left if i can

edit: thinking about it that doesn't make much sense at higher speed as your turning the bars the opposite way.. slow speed it applys though... hmmm

Maybe it's because you take more left turns than right. Where I'm at we drive opposite to the way you drive if you know what I mean. So I take alot of right handers and a bit of left which is why I find it more difficult to take a left turn. Practice makes perfect .

I hate right handers for some reason. It's even worse if i also hang off to the right.
I think it's probably because i want to be able to cover the brake incase something goes wrong, and you can't on right handers when hanging off

I'm the same. Right handers don't feel right. Even as I'm sitting here just imagining it.

I prefer rights over lefts. Probably something to do with roundabout surfing in the summer .

I'm a lefty too but some right handers feel good if its a nice sweeping bend that I know well.

Think it's practice, I also do U-turn going left too, but then again, I hate U-turns full stop.

Just thinking out loud here....

...for a right hander you'll move over to the left near the gutter.
Not a nice place to be but you'll see more round the bend.
The gutter limits how far you can move. You've already said this might be the problem.

For a left hander you can move a lot further to the right, even over the centre line if it's safe enough.
The idea of having more road to work with might make a left seem easier.

However, it could be that for a right you're turning in too soon.
Maybe because you're in a hurry to get the bike away from the gutter/verge?

I don't like right-handers because invariably with the roadds round here I can't see what's coming round the corner and I'm always convinced it's going to be some huge lorry (or fast white van, or insance car driver) taking up half of my lane and I won't be far enough over to the left....

Right handers are more awkward because of the camber - you've got a more acute angle between the tyre and the road than on a left hander.

a lot of ppl ive spoke to find LEFT easier than right including myself. Its either as said above that its just the side of the road we drive on or my favorite - 'One of biking's little mysteries

I prefer left handers in so far as I find the kerb easier to keep an eye on and keep a particular distance from, without worrying about sliding into it if the tyres let go.

Having said that, I have sometimes overcooked it/ not countersteered enough on lefts and run wide, which I have been exceedingly lucky with. Right handers make me paranoid on dodgy roads (I've never binned it on a left hander...) with the fact that if you lowside at speed, you're going to hit the kerb rather than just sliding across the road.

Having said all that, I just dislike other traffic. I need more practise.

It's been shown that most bike accidents not involving another vehicle happen on left-hand bends, so you lot must be a bunch of oddballs

Personally I muchly prefer right handers, you can see more, turn in later and get on the throttle earlier out of the corner.

Seem to have alot of omniturns on BCF. I've heard it's a very rare condition.

I think this is just a left handed / right handed type thing - although not necessarily related to whether or not you are left of right handed.

e.g. - I'm right handed, but stand on a snowboard etc as if left handed. Some people are right handed but left footed, or the other way around. On skis I prefer lefts to rights. I think people just have an intuitive like or dislike of either lefts or rights, I reckon very little to do with roads or the way the bikes are set up.

i just picture everyone going round the block doing left turns, then a 'U'ie then going back round doing rights, to see what way is nicest
