ACU stickers - im confused

Whats the deal with these ACU stickers?
I recently bought a FM helmet and it doesnt have one. I stupidly assumed as it was a new lid that its would automatically pass all safety test and be ok for track days.
Got the GF a Takachi lid on the weekend. this has an ACU sticker on the back but is of a bronze colour. Is this the 'gold' sticker?

I did a few searches and got more confused as some sites were saying the status of the sticker depended on the border??
Thick line, thin line, double thin line - very confusing!

Can anyone clarify exactly what is a gold ACU sticker. What difference it makes in the quality/safety of the helmet and whether it needs to be gold standard for racing, trackdays or both?

You need an ACU gold helmet for Racing.

I have done getting on for twenty trackdays maybe and never had it checked there.

There used to be an 'ACU Silver sticker', isn't any more as far as I'm aware.

Most probably most helmets would pass it, but it costs to have it checked and imported helmets often don't have it.

One trackday operator said and helmet in good condition is fine. I contacted a guy at MCN Pace days and they required a gold stickered helmet, amongst other things.

Well 99% of trackday operators require you to wear a acu approved helmet it is on their paper work that they send you.

What kind of FM helmet did you buy?

I've got a W10 Mono and it has a ACU Gold sticker on the back.

As far as trackdays go, I suspect it's the same as their 'you must wear leathers that zip together all the way round' clause - nobody's ever checked mine to see if that's the case or not, but by stating that in their terms, they are covering themselves even further from any possible lawsuits should you hurt yourself.

The companies are protecting themselves, not you - that's your job.

Nobody's ever checked my lid either. Smile

Before my first trackday I emailed the company running the event to check that my helmet was sufficient as it didn't have an ACU Gold sticker. They replied to say that it was a model of helmet that met requirements and it would be okay to use, they never even looked at it once I was there.
Bikes and gear get a more thorough check at RWYB scrutineering.

Well I borrowed her flip up stickered helmet today. Its nice being able to get it right open, very fresh but It didnt feel safe at all. Just had a cheap lightweight plasticy feel to it. Certainly wouldnt want to crash in it.

I suppose I can take both with me on the day anyway, than at least im covered.

But for the future (even though i've bought 3 lids in 3 months) what should I look out for when buying a lid?
