First Time Riding A 600CC supersports

So, I have now been daily riding for 3 years. 1 year on a shi**y 125cc and two years on a 500cc naked (Honda CBF500) on an A2 license. I am just about to do my A license tests and have just got myself a beautiful Kawa ZX6R!

I am a competent rider and would not class myself a beginner. However I am just wondering if there are any tips for someone transitioning to a supersports bike?

Is this quite an easy transition or is this bike gonna tear me a new one? Cannot wait to get riding it!

Just make sure you're riding above 10krpm. You'll love it.

It'll feel slower in the 3000-6500rpm than a de-restricted CB500 in the real world of in gear roll ons, and at times could feel a bit meh!

TL:Dr though in reality you'll love it if the riding position suits, and it won't feel scary just useful with a much more of a naughty howl to it too.

I haven't had many bikes but the step up in power was never a problem (because you don't have to use all the power all the time), I was more affected by the different posture, weight and handling of a new bike.

Took my CBR6 out first day after I passed my test and pinned it down an A road... It was incredible. So much noise and ridiculous acceleration. Couldn't believe bikes were allowed to be that fast. I haven't had a biking moment as satisfying and memorable as that since

2 things from personal experience (most people covered already):

1: riding position. not for everyone. can feel cramped. makes sense once you get used to it. definitely test ride if you can before

2. rev range. slow manouvres on mine are harder than on a bike with more torque. the offset of this being if you keep it at 7k+ round corners the pull is amazing.


the actual top speed difference is minimal its more the ability to deliver you there a lot faster and the acceleration in higher rpms is far higher than other types of bikes

If you don't keep the hoowur movin' you will get sore wrists.

Therefore do not go slower than 50MPH.

Physics Formula for Sportsbikes :

Speed = More than the Distance to safely stop in.

You need to fit a Rainpal.

The 600 sports will be harder to move at slow speed compared to the cb500 and the turning circle is piss poor.

Don't snatch at the throttle, but get used to opening the throttle wide open. You'll quickly learn how forgiving inline fours are, yet how fast they can be once you engage warp drive.

Not a sports but when I bought the ZZR600; out of the town riding sensible trying to making sure I don't fall off.

Onto the M1 and I got it up to 135 on the clock before I shat out,
I left my mate, in his NA supra for dust, it was magnificent.

My friend is picking it up for me today and I cannot wait to ride it around the drive way to get a feel for it! Mod 2 tomorrow so if all goes well, will be able to find a nice bit of motorway to try it out tomorrow!

Ive sat on a few supersports to see how they feel and found the ZX6R to be one of the comfiest! A lot of people complain about back pain on supersports but im only 22 so I still have a few years left in my back so i dont reckon comfort will be much of an issue
