So I go back to my point a couple days ago. So they're going to build warehouses to hold stock?

So those warehouses will be free right? Councils will not charge them business rates right? So what does this mean? It means these massive ware houses will be an extra non value adding overhead.

The Eu today has started to carve out our Quota's at the WTO, so brexit is on it's way, even if it means a humiliating climb down at the last second to the EEA option.

Regarding the warehouses argument I wonder whether the flip side isn't more ludicrous. Instead of using local suppliers you have to source from all over the continent of Europe and beyond, and ship thousands of miles daily to the assembly point.

Not particularly. If there was a local supplier that could produce at the same quality for the same price then they would be using those suppliers. So what does this mean? That either there aren't any local suppliers. The local suppliers are uncompetitive or can't provide the quality required. So what does this also mean?

It means that if there is a switch to local suppliers then prices will have to rise or quality will fall or both.

OR it means either the final assembly plants should be closed and moved closer to the suppliers (as Dell used to do) or the suppliers should be closed down and moved closer to the final assembly plants. Which option is more realistic I'll leave that for you to decide.

30 years ago you may have had a point.

Today with information at your finger tips you can easily find out where things come from.

It doesn't even have to be organic or fair trade.

Consider HP sauce, big moan about they're moving to the Netherlands... yet they didn't go out of business when they moved.

Well lets do the maths then...call me out if I've done the maths wrong as I may have made a mistake

10,000 containers per shift.

There are 2 shifts per day.

That's 20,000 containers per day.

Except 25% of those are UK components so discount this

Ok so a container is 8ft by 20ft (a small one) that's 14.4 sq metres x 15,000 containers that's 216000sq metres.

A football pitch is 7140 sq metres,

So 216000/ 7140 = 30 football pitches

So that's 30 football pitches for two shifts. AND the containers are laid Tetris style so there is no space to access them.

But wait a sec two shifts. 9 days = 18 shifts so they need to stack those containers 9 high.


Standard containers can be stacked 12 high IF empty. Panimax ships stack them 6-7 high.

Therefore you need even more space.

Ok then conceded.However

So you're going to change a non Just in time process to a non just in time process...But yet again as above why do Just in time processes exist?

They exist because they are more cost effective than having stock on hand and the facilities to manage and store the stock on hand.

What does this mean? It means increased costs. On some very rough maths. Honda UK had a 5.21bn turn over. They made 73million profits (pre tax). So 1-2% profits. Post tax it's about 1% profits which means they can easily absorb massive increases in costs right?

The pound was over valued.

I know this will come as a shock to you, but not everybody in the UK works in an industry based on imports, and nor do we all quantify the quality of our lives in dem shekels.

Do you want anymore straw for that strawman?

You can build as many port faculties as you like, it wont address the legislative framework of the EEA, which you've ruled out.
