Are you likely to meat your maker on an urban or a rural road?
If the former, ride in an imaginary safety bubble, assume you can't be seen and that everyone will pull out on your, and don't get riled up when you're not and they do.
If the latter, don't fret about being a straight line hero. Slow into bends, only open up when you can see an empty straight. Other bikers will be faster, but you'll overtake them when they're waiting for the ambulance. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I live in Kent so its kind of rural and urban? Guess il have to crack on with learning both!
I tried both of those riding postures yesterday on the way home (partly down the M2).
The tucked down position felt alot better on the Motorway, as soon as I sat up I was battered by a load of wind!
I also learned that checking my shoulder before moving right into lane 3 means the wind immediately attempts to tear my head off sideways! |

You don't need your spleen, it's dead weight.
I did some modifications to remove mine, and have been fine ever since. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Start by assuming that you are invisible and that everyone else on the road is deaf, blind, and dumb (a lot of them are just that). Keep your head on a swivel, try to be aware of every vehicle around you - you never know when the guy next to you is going to move into your space with no warning.
And lest I forget, wear full protective gear. That means a full coverage helmet (buy a good one - your life is worth the expense), jacket & pants w/CE body armor (simple leather won't do), gloves w/armored knuckles, and heavy-duty boots. If you feel like you're dressed to invade Poland, you are on the right track. ____________________ '02 HD Dyna Wide Glide, '96 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500, '94 Honda CB1000 Big One, '83 Honda CB1100F Super Sport, '82 Honda CB750F Super Sport, '81 Honda CB750K Custom
