How do you report a diesel spill on a Saturday? In a car with some friends, came to a roundabout just out from my street and almost spun the car on a massive diesel spill. After recovering and continuing the journey found the coach ahead of us was still leaving a trail of diesel down the road.

Stopped at some lights and got out to tell them their tank was leaking, but then trying to find the right place to report the spill on the road to get to cleaned up is impossible? The .gov website directs you to the local authority page where the closest option seems to be to report a road defect, but it’s all online and there’s no rapid response option or anything. Can’t even call the council as they’re closed Saturday.

Figure if the spill is big enough to slide a car it’s guaranteed to cause a motorcycle to crash, but there’s nothing available to report it. :/

Snapped a photo of the offending coach so if anyone drops their motorbike on the intersection of Green Wrythe Lane and Middleton Road in Sutton, London, they know who to blame.

Police non-emergency number would be my guess.

Ring the old bill, they will have the out of hours details for the highway authority and will pass it on.

I would have used the police non-emergency number giving them the place and time and reg of the bus.

Why was that bus reversing BTW?

It's a very tight turn, coaches often get that junction wrong.

Left it with 101 for the good it’ll do, fairly certain the guy had no idea what to do about it but eh

We nearly span on a diesel spill at Queensgate roundabout in Peterborough, we rang 999 and reported it to the police. The police were very keen to get the information as it could cause a bloody nasty accident possibly leading to loss of life, we never knew which vehicle dumped the contents of it's fuel tank but by phoning in we potentially stopped a loss of life...

I remember once finding my car sliding on a tightly curving sliproad and as the window was open there was a heavy stink of diesel. As I came around I noticed a sports bike stuffed under the left side crash barrier where some poor bugger had come off. I hunted around looking for the guy in case it had happened recently and someone was lying injured and found nothing. I phoned the cops who already knew about it and said it had happened a while back. No sense of urgency at all and another accident just waiting to happen. How much trouble would it have been for the people who attended the accident in the first place to at least cone the area off and post up warnings?

Diesel on the road is one of the worst hazards awaiting the unlucky biker. I found myself lying on a road under the bumper of a truck as a lad when I went around a mini roundabout and the bike vanished from under me without warning.

The fire brigade (or whatever they call themselves these days) deal with such incidents. The police will also need to be informed so they can stand around and watch.
