Hi all,

I have just bought a Y reg melody and am trying to change the ignition barrel.

I have removed the front faring and restraining nut, but it seems there is something still holding it in place.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA
Hunni

Ps: I am sending this message on my phone, not sure if the photo will attach properly (if at all)

Y reg eh?
It may well be corrosion holding it in.
I'd squish some ACF50/plus gas type stuff Over it and down the hole leave it over night then see if a grip/wiggle/pull/squish session gets it to move.
Failing that, if you have a new one to hand, I'd probably try selectively collapsing the old one (ie bit by bit)

Some heat might help, depends
Can you turn the yokes lock to lock?
If not it may be a steering lock pin seized if its that tyoe of lock

Hi WD,

Thank you for your reply.

It hasn't seized, it moves freely ... but like trying to remove something that still has a screw attached (if that makes any sense)

Isn't that a screw head half under whatever that is above the mounting plate? Slightly right of and above the centre of the picture.

Yes ... yes it is.

I'm now going to stand in the corner and hang my head in shame.

That would be why it was

Just to close this thread up.

Islanders post helped me find the missing screw, but it's not the bit that is circled, that is the steering lock (so i've been told)

I have attached a couple more pics with the hidden screw circled ... one is the same pic (screw1), and one is of a better view, screw2 (just in case it helps anyone else)

I now have my new ignition barrel fitted and am a happy bunny.
Thank you again for your help
Hunni
