Motorbikes and girlfriends

I've been trying to get my girlfriend on the bike for about a year and she just outright hates the motorbike. She refuses to even sit on it when its not running.

Sounds stupid but it is quite a problem to me because I wan't to be able to go places with her on the back and she doesn't.

Anyone had similar problem? I know I should just say fair enough and let her be but I REALLY want her to come on.

My girlfriend hates my bike too. Manged to get her to come on the back to the Scottish motorbike show. asked her if she liked it she said it was ok (she loved it really and just didn't want to admit it haha)

It's one of those I can't stand your beard and motorbike type things. Always trying to get me to cut it all off and buy a car .

What you need to do is get her into the company of other women who either ride a bike themselves or enjoy going places on pillion. You then need to leave her in their company for a while whilst you go and do something else. It is important that you do not bring up the subject of motorcycles yourself (other than a passing remark like "I have to go and get my bike serviced").

It has to seem like her idea.

Start hanging around with lots of female bikers, maybes even go away for weekends on the bike with them.

She'll soon start wanting to get on the back of the bike to come with you.

Either that or dump her and find a woman who likes bikes.

Can't keep mine off it, she's got all the gear, been abroad on it together and we're going to Spain in June for the Catalunya GP on it...... Once you keep vanishing every Sunday she'll soon come round to the idea.

It took allot of convinceing to get my girlfriend to even sit on the bike let alone go anywhere on it... 99% because she was frightened, after explaining it is nowhere near as bad as she imagines and much convinceing we went out...

me "what was it like then?" her "not as bad as i thought it would be, actually i quite liked it".

First go was arround the corner to get petrol, after that to see baby animals at a farm/zoo thing, knowing she would walk through fire to see small fluffy animals (they had llamas!!)... but she really loved it, now i take her allover the place with me, 150 miles is the longest up to now, doing about 500 in 2/3 days this summer

It was frickin rediculous, we could never go anywhere because she would not go on it! perfectly good transport sat outside we couldn't use!

Bear in mind if she did get you to buy a car it would be difficult for you to justify haveing a bike, bye bye bike...

Think of somewhere she would really really like to go really badly, say you'll take her... on the bike.. no bike, no go ahh blackmail the magical goodness.

My girlfriend likes my beard, i think she wants to be able to plat it or something?

Certainly leave a copy of the Ladies of BCF Calendar lying around next time you go out for a ride without her!

But yeah, if you can get her in a pub (go in a taxi if she won't get on the bike!) where bikers hang out & get her chatting to other girls who ride or pillion regularly, that should help.

I got my girl a helmet and gloves. Had her out a few times last year purely to keep her sweet!

She keeps asking to go this year but I keep telling her 'wait till the weather picks up abit!'

Wouldn't want her to get her own bike as I'd worry too much but don't mind taking her the odd run.

I agree with Nighteyes on this one...

There really is no point in pushing her to do something that she really doesn't want to do.
If she hates bikes and doesn't want to go near them, then keep it as your 'thing'.

Often relationships deteriorate because you end up being together the whole time, doing everything together and being left with bugger all to talk about. Bendy's right, you don't always have to do everything together, it makes for far more interesting evenings in if you both lead separate lives.

Don't forget some people have bad experiences with bikes ie someon they knew or loved died from one, some friends or family took them on the back once and thought it was a good idea to show off AND SCARED THE LIVING SHIT OUT OF THEM.

If peeps want to get others interested and they get on the back with you its not a good idea to go full whack as it brings out all the bad factors of owning the bike rather than the good ones.

Had a mate once who nearly made me shit my pants from some of the stuff he use to do dangerous filtering/overtakes and dodgy cornering. I really did think "shit I thought that was it, i was a gonna" lucky I loved bikes before that otherwise I may of not got a roadbike.
