PostPosted: 10:36 - 27 Jul 2018    Post subject: Clothes for hot weather (ladies version) Reply with quote

I was reading the other thread about clothes to avoid sweating too much and it reminded me I'd been wondering what hot weather options there are for women?

I currently have textile trousers and jacket (Weise) with some vents, full length boots and some short gloves. I generally wear a merino wool base layer because I've heard it doesn't smell bad as quickly. I'm fine in the morning and sweat like crazy on my way home, especially if I get stuck waiting somewhere in the sun.

It's not easy to find a good range of ladies clothing to try on. Looking online it's hard to see what is well meshed and vented and what is not.

Ladies (or people with lady friends), what clothing do you have that's good for hot weather?

I know the general idea of things to look for - I'm looking at specific brand and model. If I know what to look at I can search for somewhere I may be able to try it on.

You should add a NSFW tag to the title of this post, it will help it get noticed and you may get more replies.

Ladies don't "sweat", they glow.

Do you really need wamen's clothes? Do you have a particularly large bust, or hips, or penis?

I've noticed a few of these threads. What I do is to ride to work in jacket and jeans. Get charged into work tee shirt and shorts, and after a day of sweat and dust ride home in shorts and tee shirt, because the last thing I want to do is get even hotter and sweatier. Ride accordingly and you should be ok. And if you do come off it's more likely that the street furniture is going to kill you, so don't worry about road rash.

Enjoy the sunshine, it will be raining soon.

A carbon/kevlar bra and leggings would probably work well! Thumbs Up

No good suggesting what to wear under a full set of race leathers, as that's obvious.

But you could go all like the European kids do and just wear meshed t-shirts with stuff like back protectors built in, and strap on knee and elbow armor?

I'd argue that people don't really want to go full raging Fireblade on really hot days, but just cruise about town or go to work nice and cool with the breeze. So with that view and assuming your looking or hoping at worst to only have falling off but non impact injuries, then it's arguable that head, hands, knees, elbows and feet, and maybe your arse need protection from the effects of tarmac rash.

I was nearly in agreement with you on the 'ride accordingly and you'll be ok'

Until I nearly T boned a Focus pulling out on me turning right, I had good visibility, so did he, nothing in front of me, he simply did not look.

apparently 30mph is too fast (50mph limit)

I'll be sticking with jeans and jacket

You can get kevlar leggings which may be an option along with a jacket?

In response to various suggestions and questions:

Nah, I'm not going to ride 20 miles on the motorway in shorts and a tshirt. I fell off a skateboard going down a hill many years ago and skinned both knees. I don't want to repeat the feat for my arms and legs!

Large hips, bust or penis? Yes, hips, and I don't want baggy trousers just so I can get them on in the first place. And then the waist would be way too big and I would need a belt. It has to be ladies trousers. I could wear any jacket, though, within reason, but it's nice if it's slim at the waist!

Kevlar bra and leggings - now we're talking! I just need to learn to fall on my hips and chest, then all will be well!

To be fair I think what I have is fine. I can shower when I get home and ventilate the gear ready for the next morning, and it will be raining again soon. I was just curious as to whether any manufacturer makes specific ladies hot-weather kit. It must surely exist in hot countries, southern US, and the like, and surely we've imported some to the UK?

The best you can hope for is a vented jacket, or kevlar lined denim.
Hot weather I wear a vest under my leather, and suck up that sunshine. Just undo the zip a little and take out the liners.
I have been known to wear my Frank Thomas denim jacket, but overall I prefer my leather.
I haven't needed to buy bike gear for a long time now, I bought enough to open a small shop! so no idea what's currently available.

I have several pairs of Draggin' camos. Wear those in warmer weather, but if I'm doing motorway then leather trousers it is. Have base layer on the bottom.
Knox used to do some leggings and t-shirts with a vent line up them (maybe they still do?). Love mine, but a bit fat for them atm and don't want to stretch them! I wear the Tshirt a lot. I got lucky and picked them up new and cheap on ebay. Good luck with that Razz
Big boots too.!
I did have lighter gloves for summer, but arthritis has buggared that up for me so just wear my all year gloves because they are more comfortable.

I guess you just wear as little as you feel you can get away with while not compromising your feeling of (or actual) safety.

When I first started riding, I had some Weise textiles too. It was like riding around in a bin bag. Sweaty legs, sweat dripping off the top! I guess that's because they are made to keep the rain out, so a bit like a bucket or body welly! Laughing

I mean like wearing vests and removing liners, not suggesting riding in thongs and flipflops Razz

Whatever floats your boat eh! Razz

Textiles aren't great if they are meant to keep the rain out. Weise ones I used to have had like a rubber coating inside.

You wouldn't be the first. Or the second. Or the third. Honestly, I've lost count.

Srsly though, if money-money-money's no barrier, I reckon I'd be looking at: https://www.hoodjeans.co.uk/hood-motorcycle-jeans/k7-infinity-stonewash-blue-denim-womens-jean/

I'm currently alternating between jeans and leggings from MotoGirl because they have high waists and I don't end up mooning people behind me. The leggings are fully Kevlar lined and come with knee pads (hip pads are optional extras) and the jeans have Kevlar around the bum, knees and thighs but also come with knee pads. Both are pretty cool whilst on the move.

I've seen a lot of other women buying mesh jackets from ebay, but the ones they are all going for have disgusting lurid pink panels on them. But they were similar to this one.

I know what I know. I suspect you know something else. How would I know?

I'll get my remembermost boots on standby for when you stop being cryptic.

Mrs K wears a 'red route' denimy looking bike jacket with armour in, finds it cooler than a textile jacket. Vents seem to give a good flow of air.

That's what my denim is, Red Route. They have zips you can open up to create extra venting.

I'm also a fan of the MotoGirl leggings. I have two pairs - but that was accidental. Bought one that was too large (as I was told they fit small) but, honestly, they fit the size they say they are. Now I have a pair I never wear because they're too big. Rolling Eyes

The jacket I wear I brought from Canada. It's from a brand called "Joe Rocket" and is absolutely brilliant for this weather. It's a mesh jacket, brightly coloured (not pink) with fab reflective strips and a removeable waterproof inner-liner. It's got full elbow, shoulder, and back armour as well. A friend of mine got one of their jackets over here before, but I'm not sure they're still available. Try online, definitely.

I rode home (120 miles) in full leathers on Tuesday - to say I was half the size due to water loss wouldn't be exaggerating too much. Laughing

Nothing beats a mesh jacket. The breeze goes straight through them, don’t even get hot at traffic lights.

I have the ice version which is off white (blacks not good in the sun) of spidi summer net women's jacket.
Fits nicely looks good got the waterproof liner to go with it.

The only other contender is bowtex. I have the leggings and wear floaty trousers over the top. It’s most airy! They’re not cheap but have been worth every penny.

Rode in the UK for 10 years without the need for one, I now very much need one with temperatures being above 30c for most days in the summer .

Flyracing is the brand, im sure they make female cuts or just buy a larger size for your boobs .

It's got Kevlar in places where you might need it, mesh mostly everwhere else and it's very cool.

No where near as safe as a regular jacket but it's the best compromise.
