Hi all,

Just signed up here as it seems a good community and pool of knowledge. I look forward to lurking around Smile

Anyway, I recently bought an old (1977) CG 125 as a thing with an engine to replace my bicycle. It's charming and has me thoroughly enamoured with motorcycles. But, being a bit geriatric, it has a few faults - I was wondering if anyone has any advice on them.

The 6v electrics were exceptionally dim on purchase. I managed to improve them considerably by thoroughly cleaning all electrical connections, including the earths, with WD40 and gently removing any accumulated scum/detritus from the spade and pin connectors. I made sure to clean out the earths with particular care... Looks like TLC goes a long way! However, I'd still like to get the headlight a bit brighter: I believe a good way to do this would be with a replacement halogen bulb with the old 6v 25/25w power - unless anyone thinks that a higher wattage would be better (and wouldn't cause any disasters)?

Similarly, at night, there seems to be the tiniest hint of illumination coming from somewhere on the speedo. Am I just hallucinating or does the CG have a little speedo light, which in my case presumably needs replacing?

I'm also unsure if the generator is providing the power it's supposed to. Where would be a good place to connect a multimeter to test this?

I'm also looking around for a rear baggage rack. Anyone know where I can get one for this model of CG? I'm in Bristol if that's relevant.

Lastly, if anyone has any questions for me relating to these things (if, say, I've fixed them in the future or something) please go ahead and send a PM. Smile

I did some work on a 1975 Moby for a guy locally
and this had 6VAC lights which were bloody awful.
I made a circuit to continue to use AC for the comedy horn
but use DC for leds in place of bulbs which worked quite well and gave a more consistent output.
In terms of light output, you get more bang for your buck from leds
than incandescent bulbs so if I had an old CG, I'd be looking to do
a similar conversion

Thanks a lot. I'll look into doing something like that.
