 |
|
'lo all,
I've decided for my dire winter commute I need some heated grips. I may go wholly down the heated-grips-and-tucano-urbano-muffs route eventually, but I'll start with the grips.
Heated grips aren't cheap, and I'm happy to pay for them if they are decent, but my GF has a set of Oxford ones on her ER6. She doesn't ride in winter and has never used the grips. It seems like a logical choice to take the grips off of her bike and put them onto mine. However, there is a fly in the ointment for this plan... Will I trash the grips by removing them? If so, it's not worth doing as I will wreck a perfectly good set of grips. I'm guessing that it would be easy to break the fine filament wire that is set into the grips? If I go shoving a screwdriver down the grip, will it survive? The grips were fitted by a garage (the previous owner wouldn't know what end of a screwdriver was what I think) so it may well be they have been properly glued...
Anyone have any experience in swapping over heated grips? If not, do I go cheap Oxford (on offer from Sportsbikeshop for £45) Or do I jump to the £90 Keis ones which are removable and have independently controlled grips?
All experience and ideas gratefully received. Unless you want to Tef, in which case please leave a sufficient gap to allow other posters to put in their 2p before text-walling the place to oblivion pls. Thanks!!
(in B4 I had Mike Hailwood branded steam grips fitted to my CB125T in 1978...) ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade
Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another. |
