What do you set your chain tension at? Measure at the slackest point.
Some bike gear boxes are just plain clunky tbh. Get someone else to ride it and see if they notice anything.
Oh and I don't mean to be rude, maybe english isn't your first language? But commas help a lot in helping people read and understand what you've written! A wall of text is neither fun or easy to read. |

Transmission snatch is normal, especially if you are changing from neutral into first gear.
I wonder if what you're describing is just the gear fully engaging with the dogs of the next one. When you shift, the lever slides a cluster of gears along a shaft and they don't always fully engage with the next gear until some load is put on them.
Excessive low-rev transmission snatch can also be a collapsing sprocket carrier bearing.

Why do I get the impression that you are a more mature but fairly new rider, used to Audi-Like standards of consumer transparency?

Here-in, possibly lies the 'problem'....
Gears clunk. Motorbike gearboxes, as has been said are what's known as a 'Dog-Box', and they have more in common with a bit of plant machinary, like a lathe, than they do the relatively sophisticated, 'consumerised' transmissions used in cars, that they can afford to make that much slicker because of scale, both in the piece parts that don't have to be kept compact enough to physically fit in something mot a lot bigger than the driver's seat in a car; and the scale of production, where they sell, in the UK, around 250 cars for every motorbike....
Honda boxes 'tend' to be fairly slick as bike boxes go... you want clunks.... try an old Guzzi!!!!
But IF all is as you suggest, properly fixed and fettled vis chain adjustment and cush-drives, then then it IS most likely you, and that picky-ness combined with a lack of 'finesse' or feel for the machine. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!
