Hi,

My Peugeot Tweet 125 won't run. Initially the electronics on the screen were lighting up but I got no response when I turned the ignition, then the screen faded and wouldn't turn back on. The fuel tank is half full and the killswitch is on so it ain't either of those. Any advice?

it was last serviced two weeks ago and I have no idea about the condition of the battery. Can I check for any telltale signs?

Post a pic of the battery out of the bike, is it a sealed type, this is the time of year that failing batteries die.

That battery looks nice and clean, do you know of an electrician who can test the voltage or somebody with jump leads and a good battery?

Get a piece of wire and a 12v bulb. See if you can make the bulb light up by connecting it across the battery terminals.

If you haven't got a bulb, get a shortish piece of wire, and hold one end on a battery terminal pressing it on with your thumb. Brush the other end of the wire briefly and quickly across the other battery terminal. If you get a crackly spark, your battery is OK. If you don't, it's not.

If it's not OK, buy another battery and fit it. I recommend Tayna.

Well spotted. The sparky wire test is a certain test. I wonder what was done to test, and whether there's any other missing information. Tweetard?

Ask santa for an early xmas present, a digital multi meter, even a cheapo one, a tool that will soon pay for its self and can only help you fix this bike and others.

Perhaps the give away is the blue tape ??

Remove the battery and check on the electrolyte in the battery and give it a charge whilst its out. A pic of the battery when its out will show more as it may be a "sealed" battery, post a pic.......

Get a wiring diagram and post, also check on here for a manual......

Ignition switch. The contacts rotate a bit in the bottom of the switch.
Turn the key to ON. Then turn it just a tiny bit to the left, and see if the dash lights up and it lets you start the bike.

Two ways of fixing it:
1. Get a new ignition barrel.
2. Dismantle the current barrel, rotate the contact switch into its proper position, then glue it in place so it can't slip out of alignment again. I did that. Took longer than expected. Make sure you strip it down carefully on a bench with plenty of light, there are one or two spring loaded bits that like to ping off into a dark corner of the garage.
