Mahindra (in cooperation with Jawa) decided to recreate some of the classic Jawa models, the first one being the 50's 250/353, using quite modern four stroke engine. This motorcycle is powered by a 295 ccm single cylinder four stroke engine, liquid cooled, producing 20kW and 28 Nm, DOHC head with fuel injection and 6 speed gearbox. The whole motorcycle should weigh 170 Kg (wet). There's also a second model called ''42'' which is exactly the same except some budget cuts were made. The third model is yet to be seen and it should be the legendary 40's Jawa 250/350.
Now, we do not know if these will ever reach the old continent. So far we only know the Indian price list, 155 000 rupees for the ''42'', 164 000 rupees for the ''250/353'' and the ''250/350'' should be 189 000 rupees. Which is very close to what Royal Enfield Bullet 500 motorcycles go for.
Use google for more info in English.

I think they are quite handsome, particularly in good old JAWA red
An old smoky CZ/JAWA was fairly easy to work on, I doubt these new ones will be as easy to work on and fix.
I can’t even find an old CZ/JAWA at a reasonable price.
Like you, I don’t think we will be seeing those in Europe at a reasonable price after duties/levies/import taxes, etc.
And just like all the other non mainstream makes of bike in this country/Blighty, what would product support be like if someone bought one?
Chinese engine or Indian engine?, made in Europe and assembled in India?, all made in India? What?
The Chinese producers have not been very good at product support imho and in Blighty the motorcycling public have snubbed Chinese bikes with a venom.
Will an Indian brand/make/Jawa fair any better? ____________________ I am the sum total of my own existence, what went before makes me who I am now!

IF we take into consideration that Jawa is still based in CZE and they are still active (*cough money laundering scheme *cough, *cough), I'd say the support could be alright, but I am very sceptical.
On a different note, all the consumables on modern Jawas (and the old bikes as well) are generic and even the new machines are fairly simple in design. By the way CZ still makes motorcycle chains, they even use the old boxes. I recently replaced the chain on the MZ. And if biking doesn't do it for you anymore, CZ also makes quite a lot of affordable firearms. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

A Jawa with an ABS ring
Pretty enough but just a retro bike with the Jawa name and a generic 4 stroke engine.
That's not particularly a criticism for what it is, but the market for that bike is one foot in the grave already. ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

Oh, I don't know. They look nice, and, Jawa, were always a niche brand over here anyhow.. I think a sustainable market is there.. However, if the RE 650's take off, as they appear to be getting good reviews, RE could muscle these, and, perhaps some of the other retro >125's out of the way..
I'm already seriously contemplating 1 of the 650's .. Bang goes the idea of my next 'big ish' bike being electric !! lol ____________________ Beware what photos you upload, or link to on here, especially if you have family members on them |

Polarbear, the new 350 for the EU market also has ABS, it's just one of those things that won't go away.
Linuxyeti, EURO spec motorcycles from Jawa (none are really Czech made)

Want to like, but the finned lump behind the cylinder offends me, and the casquette on the red one makes the bike look over tall. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

The 350 is a lovely retro job and a 2 cylinder 2 stroke Would give that house room.
The 660 is
Edited to ask, can you buy that 2 stroke 350 in Czechoslovakia? You know, a 'round the back guv, and I'll wheel it out where no one can see'. ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

Of course you may buy one. The 350/640 (the red one and military) costs 73.700 CZK and the 350/634 is 78.900 CZK. You may get these for half and even lower used. Both are the same as they ever were. Early 1970's refresh of 1960's technology. The original 634 was launched in 1973 and after several refreshes of the original design they launched the 640 in 1995. Some say the engine desing is from the late 40's, but I don't know about that.
You may also register it in the EU as a brand new machine. Or at least you could, I'm not certain about nowadays. Jawa had this scheme where they had pre-registered frames and VINs, so you were not buying a brand new motorcycle, you were buying a custom made motorcycle, or something like that. Either way, you could and maybe still can register a two stroke, mind you not the cleanest two stroke around, in the EU as a brand new machine.
You may also buy one as a kit and assemble it yourself.
EDIT: They also made an attempt to build a EURO 3 compliant 350/640. I wonder happened there.

Meh, the "backwards" clock is effectively a nod to the old British smiths chronometrics, they are used to those in India on the Enfields.
It's not a proper jawa unless it has a mechanical rev counter with a green "economic" sector marked on the face. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
