Even restricted, the bike should be faster than that! I would've thought 75-80. The CBT restriction only holds you to 14bhp, not the top end speed.

Hi

A restricted RS125 should do around 80mph true top speed (so it will indicate somewhat more). It should certainly be quicker than the CBR125 (it is about the same weight and the RS has marginally more power).

At 50mph that is 80kmh which fits in with one of the German licence categories. My guess is that your bike is a German import with this speed restriction in place. I don't know how they are limited to this speed I am afraid.

All the best

Keith

the german speed restiction on the honda NSR125 that restriced it to 50mph was a small plug in black box, maybe there is a simular on your rs125, have a look around some german sites for a de-restriction guide.

Hi

Ah, right.

Is the bike fully run in?

If so take it out and thrash it. Get up to around 8000rpm in first gear, then rev it to that through each gear. Do not let the revs fall below 6000rpm.

I suspect if you do that it will do around 80.

The flat spot I mentioned between 5000 and 6000 is very severe. There is a massive amount of ignition retard between those revs, and in the high gears the loss of power is so much that the engine does not have a hope of getting through it (although if you slip the clutch to get past it you will be OK).

If you hunt round online you will find instructions on how to bypass this restriction and get rid of the flat spot. Basically there is a particular place you dig out the sealant on the CDI unit to find a metal "bridge" on the circuit board. Break this bridge and you get rid of the flat spot. Then seal it back up.

Basically the cdi unit has both ignition curves in it, and breaking the bridge switches it to using the one without the flat spot.

All the best

Keith

I hate to be pedantic, but the word is restricted. You spelt it wrongly on 3 different occasions.

Either way, a normal, 14.6bhp restricted RS should do 80mphish.

Second powerband? Confused

Maybe your just being a scaredy and dont want to rev it?

Unless you brought a 50 with a 125 sticker on it and the dealer duped you into buying it. Rolling Eyes

Thats one way to resurrect an old post. Razz

Second power band? Laughing Theres only one, and thats 8000rpm til about 13,000. If its restricted, it wont rev higher than 8000rpm. If the power valve is there, it will rev higher, thus being de-restricted and capable of around an indicated 100mph. Quite a few people sell them as "restricted" even when they're not.

i dunno what has been done, but the power comes back at 6 revs. although when your bike is not run in i think the manual suggests not reaching 6k revs. 50 is easy.

Hi

Standard restricted bike will have the power die off at 5000rpm and come in again at 6000rpm (easy to fix with a mod to the cdi unit) then have power die off at 8000rpm.

Played with it will go acceptably up to 8000rpm where it will wake up and go quite well.

All the best

Keith
