Slow Heart rate

I've been monitoring my blood pressure over the last week as it's been a bit high
Highest has been 177 over 96
but its come down to normal now
The thing is my heart rate is around 40 to 45 beats per minute this morning it was 38 beats per minute
Now I'm 6'2" around 18 stone so not really in the peak of physical fitness
Any one out there have the same?

Mine has always been 50 and lower when relaxed, it would scare student nurses when I was in hospital with a broken leg.

18 stone? That's almost 1/3 of a castle.

I'd probably go see a doctor, 40-45 would be normal for a trained person. 60 to 75 normal for a healthy adult. 38 bpm is rather low. How do you make the measurement/count? People get pacemakers for such low bpm and unlike low blood pressure (fainting, desensitising of limbs, ...) your heart could actually stop and it won't restart itself on its own.

Are you using one of those automatic wrist BP cuff things?

They aren't the most accurate. OK at home, if you keep as many variables as constant as possible.

I can get my heart rate to low 40s (sometimes lower!) at my various checkups just by relaxing and slowing my breathing. It's all good fun!

If you're worried, book an appointment with your GPs practice nurse for a health review/checkup. If they're worried you'll either be referred to the GP, or higher up the food chain.

EDIT: If you are using one of those machines, if you use it in quick succession (every couple of minutes), it will give you false readings as you are not giving the blood vessels a chance to recover from the pressure.
