S1000RR vs R6 round 2 (Handling?)

So now I've owned the S1000RR since november, I'm starting to be able to compare it to the R6. I'm in two minds.

Aside from the insane smiles per hour, power wheelies, and having fun with the electronic gimmicks like cruise control, one area that's really really bugging me is handling. I love the power on this thing and don't think I could get used to the lack of torque on the 600s again, but it just doesn't feel as nimble and its extremely noticeable for me.

I don't mean that the handling is bad by any means because it holds lines, takes abuse, and puts up with shit road surfaces. But when I'm pushing it, it feels completely different to the R6 in kind of a negative way.

With the R6 I could flick it into a knee down lean angle at any speed be it at 100 round a wide bend or coming out of a Tescos carpark at 20. I can't do that on the S1000RR.

I recently went to some country lanes and was absolutely pushing it and was unable to touch knee or get as low or quick round corners as I did on the R6. Corners where I'd be absolutely chucking it in without so much as a second thought I'm finding confusing and nervous.

I stopped fucking around with roundabouts ages ago because knee down on actual roads became easy on the R6. Brands hatch became a playground and it was all really fun and comfortable and even attempted elbows and was able to even take a hand off mid knee down as I was that comfortable with the R6. Now on the S10000RR, even roundabouts are challenging to touch knee and I feel like I'm pushing it.

The main feeling I get is the body position is completely different and it might be my new suit too. The S1000RR feels like you are sat in the bike as opposed to sat atop it. I have touched left and right down but it has always felt slightly off and nowhere near as easy.

The footpegs feel odd and their height in relation to the seat and tank is odd.

I touch knee at 46 degrees on this bike (becayse muh lean angle sensor) although it does seem like a pretty consistent gauge. Though I'm not able to hold this for any amount of time. I got it to 51 degrees before it started to feel sketchy.

Am I just not used to it? Am I trying to ride a point and squirt 1000 like a 600? Is it just my new suit?

Baffled. I know I'm doing something wrong. These bikes have top notch everything. I can't imagine an R6 being more nimble and capable than an S1000RR. This bike must have a higher limit than a 600.

Other notable thing is that I had the R6 completely set up for me by a suspension expert.

Could DDC be messing with the "feel"?

Anyone who's ridden both a 600 and a 1000 have you ever noticed anything similar?

A bit disheartened tbh. I feel like if I raced myself at brands indy I'd beat myself with the R6 vs the S1000RR. It's never been about straight line speed for me and while that's fun I'm feeling some kind of handling limit.

Do I just give it more time until I'm able to chuck this bike around like I could on the R6?

I thought much the same comparing Striple to Gixxer.

I can hustle the 675 in a way that I couldn't the 1k.

I spent ages faffing around with suspension settings and have found I'm currently happiest with it slightly raised at the rear and significantly bouncier all round.

Interestingly this is in contrast to the Striple. Which I prefer stiff as hell and handles like its on rails.

Also, the tyres (Roadsmart 3's) I love on Striple, I'm definitely not as keen on Gixxer. I preferred the Bridgestone S20.

I've got correctly weighted fork springs and shock to fit to Gixxer soon, so will see how that goes. In the end, can always revert to what is there currently.

So yeah. Suspension tweaks are definitely worth trying, they can make the bike feel very different.

There also an argument for months of ownership vs (presumably) years of it, especially over winter. Unless you're changing between different bikes all the time, you get comfortable with a bike, you can feel the slightest changes. You feel when something is wrong with it. I felt really weird getting back on the Honda after it had been laid up. Maybe see what it has to offer on some sunny days?

The S1000RR has dug shite handling and front end feel, i hated it.

If you like the R6 then you should consider the new R1, best handling bike i owned yet.
