For those that are interested, I managed (finally) to get NBC working on both my laptop and android device to stream all the Premier league matches.

All legally and above board as well.

Cost me £7 per month in VPN and $19.99 for the NBC subscription for the rest of the season.

Screw BT sport wanting to charge me £35 per month on top of sky!

Yeah but now you have to put up with cringy american pundits... I just stream of my laptop for free Smile

Championship streams are a pain but can always find a prem stream.

Nah NBC use British pundits for the "soccer" so all good. 👍

Yes but streaming is illegal. 🤣 (#real reason = shite quality)

Yup, HD is pretty much standard across the board, only channels not broadcast HD are not.

It's not legal, but nobody has ever been prosecuted for watching an illegal stream though.

It's true, the law has changed, Sky can technically sue you for loss of earnings.

It's never happened though.

Agree on the piracy law.

But this isn't piracy. I'm paying nbc for a service which I am receiving. All done through nbc.

Nothing to do with sky.

To put that argument into the context I see it as:

Bmw could sue me because I bought an audi and not a BMW.

Yes, but somehow the law recognises the Football Leagues contracts with TV companies as something that is enforceable by law if anyone circumvents it as loss of earnings.

Like it or not, if you are watching a game of live League Football in the UK and not watching it on an official licenced broadcast, you are committing an offence.

Not a chance of that being enforced. Ever.

What if I buy my own motorised sat dish and point it at a mexican satellite to watch Stoke v west brom. Your telling me that's illegal. No chance.


Perhaps if I then put that on a screen and charge people admission. Yes completely agree. Watching something myself that I've paid for. No sorry not a chance 🤣

The judgment in Filmspeler also confirmed that end users (i.e. those viewing the unauthorised streams) could also be held liable for copyright infringement, based on acts of reproduction of the protected content.

You could argue that you are not buying from an unauthorised source, but the source isn't selling you the service on the understanding you are from the UK. You are taking this outside of the law by accessing from the UK.

But as you have ready spotted yourself, this isn't an unauthorised stream. It isnt bt or sky.

It's a different countries broadcast. Ill agree with you as far as I could imagine sky getting arsey with nbc about allowing it. But as far as my understanding of that text goes, I'm doing nothing illegal.

The key bit basically is that aside from Iran - vpns are completely legal to use. The only main caveat being that any activity that would be illegal without a vpn, is still illegal behind a vpn.

Doesn't apy though as the original act of watching Nbc sports is not illegal to begin with. It doesnt simply "become" legal just because a vpn is being used to facilitate it.

Of course, which is why it's a grey area, the law didn't specify who and what is deemed as authorised, but I imagine if it did get to court, you'd lose, as Sky would use the loss of earnings reason to get you convicted.

Like I said though, an end user has never been prosecuted for just streaming and probably never will be. You'd have to be one unlucky fucker to be the first one ever. The numbers are on your side.
