I have a speedfight 2, 50cc moped and i'm havin a little trouble.

a few weeks back when i was ridin the bike to my friends house the bike was riding fine for most of the journey but as i came down his road the bike started dieing and eventually cut out as if i had run out of fuel. I did however have good amounts of fuel and oil.
I tried restarting it and it would start, but as soon as i gave it any throttle it would die and cut out again. i tried all sorts but nothin worked and in the end i left it at my friends house overnight. When i went to collect it the day after it was working fine as if nothing was wrong.

It had been fine ever since until a couple of days ago when exactly the same thing happened, only this time, even after waiting a couple of days, it still dies and cuts out.

My friend said it could be that i have muck in the carburetor and that it is blocked. I took the seat box out and squeezed all the tubes to clear them but nothing happened.

Any ideas on what's going on? and how to sort them out?

any help is greatly appreciated.

P.s: i might mention that when this happened for the second time, it was right after i had hit some speed bumps at quite some speed, so i dont know if that has shaken muck up from the bottom of my fuel tank or what?

Sounds to me like the carb is blocked i had the same problem on my old 100cc speedfight2 which it kept doing.this is because it has a sponge air filter and is not the best solution for filtering air, anyways if you know your way around the carb this will be easy just undo the plastic cover on the air box then remove the air box completely clean this filter using soapy water and do the same to this air box but dont replace them untill they are completely dry then attack the carb switch off the fuel if u cant do this then find the hose/pipe which is the fuel into the carb and nip it with a pair of mole grips undo the bowl on the bottom with a i think its a 10mm spanner clockwise normal threat then take out the main jet with a reasonable sized flat head screwdriver and use carb cleaning fluid if you dont have any just wash it with normal clean water but make sure you fully dry it out and i mean dry it out and check there are no blockages through the hole in side of it its only a hole about 0.5-1mm wide. Then redo every thing in reverse to build it back up again.

Best of luck Thumbs Up

Kenny has a good idea there, it is a good possibility that it is that.
The only other thing I would say is the setting of the carb may have been shifted, from say a bump or drop of the bike.
I’m sure how it was explained to me on my bike was that the needle and the floats were off after I binned it.
This meant that I would be riding along happily at top speed 31mph on my TS50 and it would die as the fuel isn’t getting down anymore, the needle plugs the hole. Stop the bike, the thing re-fills and away you go again.

Let us know what happens.

Oh another thing, I thought air filter were best cleaned with a little petrol so it is clean and dries out faster.

I find that petrol leaves a residue tho when it has dried

i got it sorted.

luckily my friends dad knows a fair old bit about mechanics and was able to remove and open the carb up. and yes, there was black grime in one corner, not much at all but it was enough stop the bike working. so basically he got a pressure air hose and blew it out and reattached it. worked like a charm...

so thanks for all your help guys!
