PostPosted: 17:36 - 22 Mar 2005    Post subject: RS50? RS125? Reply with quote

Im asking this question because some fool followed me home then overtook me on my residential street at 40mph.

As I have never had an RS, or had any real expreience of them, i wasnt sure which on it is.

I think it was a 50 as the exhaust was tiny and his legs stuck out the sides like he was going to fall off at any moment and was clinging on for dear life.

I think he thought my bike was crap because it wasnt an rs and looks pretty old.

Anybody else get any RS50's (race rep 50's) racing them?

Do you remember what side the exhaust was on, right or left of the bike?

Right = 50.
Left = 125.

Its fairly easy to mix them up as they're so similar, easiest way to tell is by what side the silencer is on. Thumbs Up

It was on the right.

Aha a nifty fifty then. It was pretty mucky and was one of those 03/04 models with the orange tail (i think)

Thats what annoys me about the RS50/125/250. From a distance they look pretty much identical.

RS50 has a smaller swingarm to the RS125/250
RS250 has twin cans (Unless it's a RS125 with aftermarket jobbies)

Those RS50s are quite ridiculously slow. They look so bloody nice though.

Never seen an RS250 on the road, but they are absolutely gorgeous.

Stock RS50's are bloody slow, although what stock road 50cc isn't? lol.

The RS125 also has a much more curved and fatter frame than the 50 and it's polished.

I think it's really easy to tell them apart, although i am an RS fan. When i first got into them i couldn't.

wtf??

It was just that he looked really big on it, it seemed like his legs dodnt seem to slot into the gaps behind the fairing.

I just thought 'ah a ped boi, no wait is it a ped?, maybe it isnt?' and just got bored and went home. Neutral

Thats not much of a RS250 pic, it makes the 250 look like the fat ugly sister, which it isnt! Its just the RS125 pic is a far nicer picture, it must be the camera angle or something like that.

Most of the time when you seel an RS250 you will just assume it is a 125. the 50 and 125are difficult to confuse as the 50 is so laughably slow, the 125 and 250 are a bit harder to tell appart as they wizz past.

If you ask me it's a good thing. Nothing beats the smile you get when some tit mistakes your 250 for a 125 at the lights Laughing

*wants one*

RS50's are just plain funny. It seems like everybody who has one thinks it's as quick as they look, when in reality they won't go past 55mph when derestricted.
Only ever had one try to race me. He got blown into the weeds by my 4 stroke 125. Now that REALLY is pathetic Razz

The biggest give away is the exhaust. But if you take a look at the front disk brake, the RS50 has a "moped" front brake. Where as the RS125 has a "Bike" front brake with the dual calliper.

The RS50 is great just for the comedy value. I was up at Merry Hill centre one night, and this kid was racing his mate on an RS50 with an Arrow system. The 6mph first gear is the real beater at the lights, and then 5changes later at 50mph it sounds like its doing about 110! The noise and smell was cool tho!

I've got a 125 and the exhaust is on the right. It's a Rossi Rep 98-99

Edit - hang on, just checked and it is on the left

Is there actually any point in having gears on a 50?! You would be constantly changing gear!

What!?!?

I think the record was over the ton, by a couple that did it for a major hobby.

Needed a rebuild every 20 minutes though.
