Need to find a decent PC strategy game

As per the thread title.

I play the Civilization series a LOT but need something new.
Lately I've been playing Civ 5 Beyond Earth, which is great but the expansion pack (Rising Tide) fucked the game up big time as the AI is now way too easy.

Any suggestions welcome

What type of strategy? RTS or 4x games?

Total War, Thrones of Britannia. The AI cheats like a whore, even on easy, but the Radious mod sorts that out pretty well.

Another vote for Total War, but I like the Warhammer one best.

Dawn of War series is worth a look too, although it's showing some age now. It's the only strategy game I've played where you can reinforce a squad without having to take them back to the base so there's a lot less messing around.

What grinds my gears (wrong thread) is that in the good old gamon days you bought the CD/DVD installed the thing and off you went.
Now we've got this mandatory FPOS Steam. I bought a game off it, took several hours to 'download'.
OK now please may I play it? No! Needs to do 'mandatory updates' (several hours more).
OK now please may I play it? No! 'We see you are playing this game for first time, need to initialize settings zzzzzzzzzzzzzz'.

been playing BloodBowl 2 a lot lately

it's lacking, because I suspect the devs lacked funding,it's quite pleasing for one off games, but frustrating and boring to play seasons

So the game I bought 'Endless Sky' has finally updated.
This evening I couldn't play it because 'Steam couldn't get a connection'
Finally it ran, but went onto 'Initialising'. I went down and rang my parents. An hour later it was still 'Initialising'.
I miss the good old days and am Pished now because is all that game's fault

OK I realised that we have this thing called the internet nowadays (amazing but true) and I could look up my issue and find a solution.
Turns out it actually says 'Initialize' and there is this strange cryptic E in a circle below it.
You were supposed to press the 'E'.
Obvious (if you're not a retard).
