I'm going to buy a light/medium sized chain for taking with me on the bike. I'm not decided which is the best way to carry a chain though, which may dictate how bigger chain I buy.

I've had it in my head that a tankbag would be the best way to take a chain with you, but not sure how it would affect the balance of the bike, and possibly make the Tankbag slide around, or even damage the tank.

What does everyone else do?

I carry my chain in my backpack, it is medium weight, but still adds ache to carrying it around.

I only really take my chain if im going to park the bike somewhere for a long period of time unwatched.

I'm along the lines of "don't take my chain, its far too dangerous"

I'd only put it in say a topbox or tankbag, something seperate from my body. If you go down with it on you, it's going to smash some bones. Crying or Very sad

I can fit a chain under my seat though, so if required, thats where I'd put it firstly.

Do NOT carry it on you. If you come off it will hurt.

i would say tail pack is the best bet - it wont get in your way but is still easily accesable. If its on your tank then it gets in the way for filling - and i don't find a tank bag to be overly comfortable anyway.

DON'T TAKE IT IN A BACK PACK!!!
Just think what it will do to your back if you hit the road on it in a soft bag! your are looking at major spinal injuries!!
Take it in a tank bag or tail pack, myself i take it in my tanks bag as its not to heavy, thought be warned, i have a magnetic tanks bag that seems a good idea, but the magnets have attracted small bits of metal that have scratched the tank a bit.

My locks usually go in the backpack, when I'm using the bike for college.. Which is most of the time.

The rest of the time when I dont need a backpack, the chain/padlock and disc lock all go under the seat. Dont leave them in there all the time though. Whenever I go over a bump, I hear a thud and think "oh god, whats broke?!" Laughing

I used to wrap it round the grabrail.

Grabrail is gone now so if I need to carry it I use a tailpack... but don't tend to bother with it, just use the steering lock and park in a sensible place (right outside 6th Form, or outside the box office at the theatre!)

Carrying the chain on your body is a really bad idea. If you come off things will get broken. Thumbs Down

Best place is in underseat storage if you've got it, next best is panniers or tank bag.

Only carry it in a backpack if you really have to. Again if you come off this will really hurt some, especially your back, and that's not good. Shocked

"Don't wear it unless you want a surgeon to dig it out of you".

If you are using a back pack, try and make sure it's behind others stuff, with flat or soft thing by your back.

I believe Goose had mentioned that his full big-back pack might have even helped in his accident!

My chain is in my hall cupboard!!!

I just carry a couple of disk locks as they come with handy pouches that attach to the bike somewhere.

Under my seat, can fit it and the helmet in there quite comfortably... Which is good!

If I'm feeling lazy and popping out of school for a bit I'll leave it chained to a lamp post or something...
