i know that its starting to get nicer, and the sun is out more and its dry, but we should have plenty days of this left till next winter, and they can only get beter. so dont go balls to the wall and join the latest trend, as it seems too many people have over the weekend.
spread it all out, and ride withing the safety of your abilities, if you ever feel even the slightest hesitation, just dont do it, and any scare, take a quick break, and re compose your self
we have to watch for alot more than the average car driver, so there are that many more dangers.
ride safe, and dont go out there and die on me.

Hey I was due a fall, and it wasn't all my fault (kinda of)!!
In serious mood now.....
Yep, it's been a bad weekend just from what I've read on this forum and I also heard about a guy breaking his pelvis on the saturday after he cooked it into a bend he was unfamiliar with.
Stay safe and wear the proper gear. ____________________ Old bikes >>> https://www.bikepics.com/members/cc123/ |

I was contemplating on posting this topic, I don’t want to be put off riding. Good one V4.
I know it’s all been done before but I am going to put down a few pointers I have developed and learned over the years, some of them are obvious but ride thinking about them, please.
STRAIGHTS: Good to know your straights first but if you don’t know them that well, don’t push it. Straights can be as dangerous as corners when objects and bumps are hit at great speeds. If you eye sight isn’t 100% then sort some glasses, they help a lot. A good lit with clean visor is a great help, any smear can disillusion you to objects and road surface. When thrashing your machine down a straight, visor always down, it takes one bee, stone or dust to make you try to touch your eyes. This means you are not in control.
CORNERS: Chamfers, oil, stones and pedestrians are the killers on corners. As with the straights if you know the corner then use the knowledge you have. The front wheel has no chance against oil, damp roads should show this up, rainbow coloured patches means time to straighten up a little. Remember road use is designed for 2 layers, tarmac and rubber, add oil in between and you have no contact at all.
Anyone you see taking someone on a corner is someone you shouldn’t be riding with, perhaps tell them your thoughts when you stop.
ROUNDABOUTS : Always slow down unless the horizon is clear, never take a roundabout like a chicane, always look 3 cars back from each entrance/exit, access speed of vehicles if they seem a little hesitant give them all the time in the world. Being under a car going 20-30mph has gotta hurt.
Bikes are capable of doing 0-40 in no time at all, use this to your advantaged to avoid misjudged pull off’s.
GEAR: I got on the 400 and instantly bought some better gear, I feel slightly stupid for not having good gear on my 125. You might think gear is a waste of time In a head on, but remember, leathers keep body parts together after a harsh crash, you could be easier to stitch up if they have all the pieces.
MOTORWAYS: I have just recently passed my test, it was my first time on the Mway and this is what I think.
Watch out for reps, the come down the fast lane in their Vectra’s, fast. Not time to loose kind of driving is ridiculous, if you are in the fast lane and they are up your ass, there is no harm in a wave signal (no fingers) to let them now the speed limit is 70 not how fast you can go.
When in the middle lane you may feel unsafe, relax, and get yourself into your ‘bubble’ and try to change you speed according to who is in front and behind.
18 wheelers are a night mare, treat these like they have a disease, personally I like to be well away from these fukers. They are tall and hide cars, give them lots of room even if it means getting past it quickly.
Hope these bring back some thoughts of when you were out last and saw this happening.

Gear will save your ass!
My boot are fcuked as is my helmet but my leathers held up great. Ok it wouldn't have done much if I came off into traffic or into a barrier or tree's etc but I picked myself up and walked away with nothing more than some scraps and bruises. I hate seeing people wear the wrong gear. ____________________ Old bikes >>> https://www.bikepics.com/members/cc123/ |

no disrepected to anyone but theres been alot of crash threads and a few death threads and its only the start of the good whether. does this normally happen at the starts of good whether?
people pushing it maybe abit to much?
im enjoying the whether as is everyone else but im keeping fairly easy for now, not had the bike long don't want to bin it. ____________________ CBR400RR the funs started - Honda MTX 125 ongoing project when i can be arsed |

for sure that is the way to avoid running wide I have had a few problems like this but only on roads where the surface is littered with gravel sand or gum nuts! when I see them I back off the throttle and just gradually slow the bike down with the rear brake and gently reduce the lean angle to safely get around the corner, not fun at all though! on a beautiful surface you can get away with just about anything and can really throw the bike into the corner as long as you are smooth and don't brake, gently wind the throttle on and enjoy
another point I can remember reading in the kneedown issue of performance bikes was that if you have time to slow the bike down mid corner with the brakes which causes the bike to stand up straight again, as a rule of thumb you could have made the corner without braking and just leaned over more! ____________________ Those bloody footpegs......they ought to do away with em! |
