How much do they cost nowadays? Last time I had someone check for me they were in the region of 550-600 quid (few years ago) Sad Sad

I've got a very small budget and the plan was to by a 1000-1500 quid 125 and do my cbt but seens as i'm 22 and I could do my direct access course if I could afford it makes more sense to do that.

obviously they give you the bike to do it on i presume? Just use your own leathers (that's about the only thing I already have)

thanks

btw if I do the direct access course I may have to think about getting a cheaper bike (6-800 quid bike) - i'm thinking long term here because a 125 i'm bound to want to upgrade from in a few years (it won't be for a good few years I upgrade it)

go DAS! it will cost yah about £600 and that will cover everything, mine was that much and included CBT and test fees
For that sort of money you could get a half decent 600
Go out enjoy and be safe! Laughing

can you do the bike test without the training? the direct access bike test is only £51.00 what your really paying for is the lessons and bike hire.

if you can do this I can get someone I know that has passed the test to train me

or is that not a good idea?

It should cost you less than that. I think my total for my DAS, which included CBT, three days lessons on big bike and test fee was about 450 quid. So, you'd have change for a bit of kit.

You don't have to have lessons to pass your test, but you would need access to a suitable bike!

Have a look on your local council website and see if they have links with any training schemes - prices may be subsidised.

You would also need to be insured on it as well.. looked into it and didn't get very far with it! not to mmention you would need a licence holding friend to take it there for you or a trailer to drop it at the test center!

Uness you are allready a good rider or bloody lucky you will find it very difficult to pass without lessons imo.

After a year of rideing thought i'd be ok to do the test, did the das and passed first time, doubt i would have otherwise! Shocked

Its allot of money but its worth it honest Very Happy

Where aouts are you? somebody might be able to reccomend somewhere?

Do a bit of phoning round, can't remember how much I paid but just check ADTs website and they did various courses from 1 day to 5 day

Quote:
ADT 1 Day Mini Course:

This course is designed for riders who are currently riding on a regular basis. Starting in the morning, you will spend the day with one of ADT's licensed instructors, training to pass one of our pre-arranged DSA tests at the end of the day. Although you are free to use your own bike, ADT will supply one of our new machines free of charge if you prefer.
ADT 2 Day Booster Course:

This two day course is suited to experienced riders who have completed a CBT, but have not ridden for some time. The course will end with one of our pre-arranged tests and, as with all our courses, prices include bikes and equipment!.
ADT 3 Day Course:

This 3 day course has fast become our most popular training module.

Combining our usual high standard of instruction with the best value for money around, it is designed for riders with some experience and starts with a CBT (if needed). You will be teamed up with another rider to work towards your full bike test on day three.

Unlike many organisations, we guarantee never to place more than two pupils on each course, and our unbeatable prices INCLUDE the D.S.A test fee!!.

ADT 4/5 Day Novice Course:

For those riders who are starting from scratch, ADT are pleased to offer a course to suit you!
Starting with a C.B.T, and ending with a D.S.A test, your qualified instructor will ensure that the step up from a 125cc to a 500cc (where applicable) will be timed to suit your individual rate of progress.

I was tempted to do a direct access striaght after CBT.

But then I thought, no get the experience yourself.

So offf I went and bought a 125, which I am learning on now.

I may still well do the direct access, but I intend to learn abit first.

just an update for people in my area looking to take their 'DA' exam:

this is the best quote i've got so far:

https://www.newstyletours.com/Contact-details.htm

their based in pontypridd (cardiff) and charge by the hour, ideal for me seens as I already have some limited experience so shouldn't take as long to get up to test level (in theory)

CBT £95

£20 an hour = 10 hours (max) DAS @ £20 = £200 (i'm hoping it'll take me a max of 6-8 hours 'hoping')

Theory test £20.50

Practical test fee (weekday) £51

Hire of m/cycle for test £30

_____

TOTAL £396.50 (£356.50 if it takes me 8 hours)

these I contacted too and they only charge 455 quid for everything - https://www.cardiffmotorcycleschool.co.uk

If you haven't rode before I sincerely doubt you will pass with 8 hours training. Smile

I'm doing 18 hours training and I have been riding a year. Smile

nah i've rode before, i know the controls and how to take corners, but thats about it. Why is it taking you 18 hours? all the places i've rang said the average it takes is 8-10 hours. and that's from scratch.
