Fazer luggage advice please

Hi guys

The infamous Travis Bickle here!

I'm after some luggage for my 1999 FZS600 Fazer. I don't really wanna go any wider as I like the slimness of my Fazer for filtering very tight stationary traffic, so was planning on just going OTT on the top box and forgetting the side panniers. Something like the Givi Trekker Outback 58 appeals to me.

Please assume I'm an alien that's just landed and doesn't even know what a motorcycle is, let alone what luggage options there are out there and how they work. I know people like GT200Fan79 like to point and laugh at me when I ask noob questions and call me simple, but you have to remember I've literally only just got into biking this year and I didn't really grow up around bikes as none of my friends or family ever had any.

So I assume Givi is pretty much considered the go-to brand for luggage but are there other brand out there I should be considering?

The main question I have relates to mounting. It's a tad confusing not seeing it in the flesh and just looking online. From what I understand, you need a bike-specific rack, and then a mounting plate on top, and then the top box which attaches to the plate? So three separate items to purchase?

Any advice or recommendations welcome!

Please don't tell me I'm actually going to have to get off my arse and go into a shop to ask about it, at which point I'd feel guilty about going away and ordering online after taking their advice and touching up their products so just end up ordering it from them and paying over the odds...

I got a Givi rack for my Fazer but it was a 2004 so will be a different fitment to yours. You then usually go for a Monolock or Monokey top box with the appropriate base. Look it up online (and in other threads) but one of them (I think Monolock) is more for smaller loads whilst Monokey is rated for heavier. I got a cheap used Topbox off ebay, think it was £40, but it was 45L so I could have fit 2 helmets in at a stretch.

The top box arms are in the region of £95 from Givi, and I think Renntec do them as well. It will just be a metal base which you'll need to securely fit your givi base on to. The monokey boxes are removable with a turn of the key and a push of a button, which is handy.
