I work at dominoes as a delivery rider, I use a work bike for deliveries that is kept at the shop. In my leisure I have a 125 I ride only for social and domestic purposes. I specify this to my insurance but they still charge me extra because I'm in an untrustworthy age category and it's assumed I might still use it for work (this is what I was told on the phone).

I pay a £1000 pound premium - I'm 18 and ride a sports bike with no no-claims. However! it was at £1500 before I changed my job role online.

This trick is fairly well known but I spent half an hour scrolling through the complete selection of job roles on lexham insurance, here's what I found the can be used instead of being a 'fast food delivery rider'. I used goods dispatcher instead.

    shop assistant
    parcel deliver
    goods dispatcher
    goods handler
    food delivery
    driver
    despatch rider
    despatch driver
    despatch worker
    delivery courier
    delivery driver
    courier
    cargo handler
bakery assistant (I work at a pizzeria Wink )

Thanks for reading.

It's an old trick in the book (but still a useful one) to try different job titles that still (reasonably!) reflect what you do. The caveat is if you select something that clearly isn't what you do, in which case it just gives the insurance company something to use as an excuse to not pay out on.

I don't actually think that insurance figure is that unreasonable for your age and experience in today's climate. It'll come down quickly as you accrue NCD.

I'd say that there are a few descriptions there that fitted your job, but goods dispatcher probably isn't one of them. Strictly speaking, the dispatcher usually oversees and assigns the deliveries, he doesn't do them.

Another example of the use of statistics in insurance.

My daughter has my old Corsa. Her insurance is cheaper if I'm a named driver. I drive the car on occasions when I need to do maintenance on it for her but other so strictly speaking we're ticking the right boxes but why does that make insurance cheaper?!

Postcodes are one I do understand: some areas have higher vehicle crime than others.

On the subject of jobs don't put down pub landlord as they'll assume you're an alcoholic Smile I assume that "driver" as an occupation sorta marks you as "more competent" but considering that also means you'll be on the road more often I would have thought it meant higher risk!

Finally, saying you own your own home gets you cheaper insurance than if you rent.

Goods Dispatcher absolutely does not describe what a fast food delivery driver or rider does.

Insurance company will not care if you're a full-on spakka. Not to mention the prospect of an IN10. If you think Insurance is expensive now, wait till you see what an IN10 does.

Once again, insurance companies cannot by law revoke 3rd insurance retrospectively. What they can do iw cancel your current insurance from the current date and try and sue you for any losses they incurr, but thy will have to show that their losses are a direct result of your misrepresentation.

Potentially a fraud conviction could be on the cards as well

Now there is a record on the internet of your poor assumption being corrected, and also of you advising others to follow your lead... Not a good look IMO.

That's assuming the OP ever gets stopped and fully checked by PC plod!

I've been stopped twice because the computer in the cop car said I was
not insured. However this was in error because the database wasn't fully
updated thanks to my insurance company. If I the incorrect insurance I
would be really in the shit.

How much of your time is spent working as a goods dispatcher?

Delivering and dispatching are two different things. An aircraft dispatcher doesn't fly the plane for example.

The same days, I sort of do both, next time I get back from work I'll try to explain what I mean.

Also the source of this initial misunderstanding is the version of what I thought dispatch meant. I never learnt what dispatch meant at school, I've only seen it written down when I order stuff on amazon.

You sort of do both but you work at Dominos as a delivery rider.

Of all the job titles on your list, goods dispatcher is the only one that you're definitely not.

You might be half retarded and you might not know what the word dispatch means but you're still not a goods dispatcher. I don't think Dominos are even going to have goods dispatchers. Laughing

Wouldn't the goods dispatchers be the customers who eat the Pizzas?
