Can nsr125 run with electrics?

Heya electrics have gone funny on my bike, rev counters not working and the lights dont work.

I have ordered a new rectifier but wondering of I can run the bike without damaging it by pulling the battery amd disconnecting the dodgy rectifier. I use my bike to get to and from work amd would rather not be getting the bus.

Was wondering if the nsr125 can run without any electrics as its carby, or even just run run lights and horn off a battery but not use the alternator as it keeps frying batteries.

No chance because you need a battery that can be charged from the alternator via the regulator / rectifier.

I've done it as have others but it depends on a few factors

You can run with battery alone but for how long depends on the bettery and load ie what you run besides the ignition.

Lets say you run it by kick starting it, use no lights, no horn and the indicators sparingly.
That will give the max distance but that's based on how much energy the battery has stored and how you use it as you ride

I doubt the 125 has a massive battery ( 7AH mebbe?)
You could take a charger with you to work and recharge/top it up there to be on the safe side

All this assuming you have a good battery and dont have too many miles to work.
If the battery has boiled up or iffy I wouldn't chance it

In theory you could remove the alternator, change the flywheel, remove the charging system and then you'd be running a total loss ignition system but it would be completely pointless on a road bike as the distance you can travel will be limited by how quickly the battery goes flat.

Running a total loss ignition system is not the solution to the problems with your bike.

Lots of misinformation here as usual. The NSR doesn’t need a battery to spark so it should run without a battery. However there is a chance you may fry other electrical components by doing so, including the stator and also possibly the CDI / power valve controller (if it has one). So yeah it will run but I wouldn’t risk systematically burning out more pricey electrical components.

Some nsr 125 have a 3 phase alternator and some old ones have a flywheel generator like the cg125.
If the latter then it`s as G.T.20O. says.

Best thing to do IMHO is not own an NSR now, as they are just getting such a poor reputation on here now, due to a large proportion of clueless retards and weirdos owning them.

Its like buying a blue Subaru Impreza all over again. The car might be good, but the reputation is awful due to them attracting idiots.

Ah so the nsr needs the alternator to run the cdi amd wouldnt be able to run off battery power for long? It has a 5ah battery.

i think nobody knows how the NSR works
the ignition is completly independent from the electrics . inside the alternator it's 2 coils producing 200VAC charging a capacity (400V 1µF)
the discharge is done by the sensor (small coil 10mA)
the control of the valves system is done by the 12VDC comming from the battery or the 9 other alternator's coils
so with a few power in your battery you can run as long as it remains
for your acknowledge the battery charging is done as :
-3 time of 3 coils connected in serial
- these 3 blocks are connected in Y without neutral
- the reg/rec transform the VAC in VDC
- the voltage at 6K revs is 18VDC without the battery and 14.2VDC when battery connected

At the end of the day, unless you've checked the voltage across the battery when turned off and then running, you cannot diagnose electrical problems.

Jaffa is on my enemy list for a reason.
