Just read this story. I cannot believe it!! Shocked The whole point of the congestion charge is to reduce congestion - when have bikes or scooters caused congestion? The newt loving tw*t would be better off charging pedestrians, tourists and taxis who cause more congestion through their inability to cross roads properly and drive with consideration of others.

I for one will sign any petition going, go on any demonstration & write letters to prevent this madness!! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

The iritating thing about safety is this. The government want to reduce casualties in what is an inherantly dangerous form of transport - motorcycling. But the whole point of biking is that people accept the risks that go with it. That means bikers will be charged for the fact that they are accepting these risks.

If they really wanted to reduce casualties, then they could just ban biking.

Hi

Doesn't surprise me at all. I said that I thought this would happen but nobody believed me.

The Kengestion charge is nothing to do with congestion, and mainly to do with money (it is the Mayors main source of revenue). It does not help that it is brought in by someone who cannot even drive and it applies greatly to people coming in from outside London and who thus do not vote for / against Ken Livingin thestoneage.

£750k a week is over £350m over 10 years (more if the charge increases). That is a handy amount of cash to dig themselves out of the financial mess they have got themselves into with the Kengestion charge.

Solution? Ignore central London. Let it whither and die.

All the best

Keith

Oh for f**k sake, i have to go through central london nearly every day to get to university, if this happens im going to be forced to sell the bike and give up motorcycling till i leave London (can't wait to leave this bloody place) Thumbs Down Thumbs Down

As a student i just can't afford it.

How can they justify that motorcycles and scooters cause congestion?? It is really pathetic.

LOL

I believed it would eventually happen.

Solution = Just take the bike in as normal and snap a corner off the numberplate.

Oh and btw did you see the stats?. Bike accidents fall by 8% even though bike usage increased by 20%....

Where the fack is the problem? Thinking

No, I'm still livid over this article - I actually thought the Congestion Charge was a good idea when it came out. In fact Ken's transport policy made some sense - but he's totally lost the plot - bendy buses replacing Routmasters, no real movement on Crossrail, tube network still strangled by the Unions, strategic routes i.e A40, A406 totally snarled up all day (I know they are under the auspices of the Highways Agency but if he had the wherewithal he could have cajoled the government).

No enough is enough - if I see him on the Jubilee Line or in the local M&S I will challenge him on this!

So they are trying to reduce casualties with bikes by charging them to go into one of the safest places to be on a bike. ie where there isnt many cars because of the congestion charge?? OOOOOOKKKKK :S

That really pisses me off! I hate london even more and definatly going to avoid the crap hole now!

Just thinking today as I was going along the NO-CAR LANE if I am actually aloud to use it after all I am not a car plus it's not as if I am holding any busses back as I am always able to move! simple as.

You never see a que of bikers holding up the traffic in the mornings why don't the government get off there arses and actually look outside and see whats going on instead of assuming whats going on!
