Morning all,

If I were to carry a fishing rod on my bike and it stuck up and back quite far, at what point am I going to get grief from the popo?

I'm planning to strap it to the pillion peg and grab handle, so it'll poke up and back by about 2-3ft. All good?

Cheers!

You might have trouble if filtering through central London but on most roads can't see a problem if you feel safe.

You could jam it up your....

It might be better poking out the front.

Is it two/three piece?

You could rest it on the pillion peg and poke it straight up.

Worimz or spinning?

It's fine as long as it's secure and doesn't interfere with your control. You should attach a red cloth, hi-viz vest or some similar thing to the end of it so that people can see it sticks out.

I've done similar to your description with some drain pipes I used to hold crutches in.

I've also attached skis onto hard panniers pointing forwards outside my leg.

I'm always carrying a long item....

...but if I tie a flag on the end of it and ride along I'll definitely get the attention of the police Wink

Pretty sure there are rules around it protruding front or back beyond the vehicle by more than a certain amount (1m rings a bell). Straight up would probably be the obvious way, but be careful of leaning too much on right hand bends or else you'll get tangled up in oncoming traffic. Shocked

2-3ft? So, about the height of a pillion? Can't see a problem with that. Stick a flag on the end.

I've got a little telescopic rod that could be used for spinning etc. It's good for poaching with because it scopes down to about a foot and a half, so you can collapse it and hide it in your coat when you spot the bailiff. Needless to say it's easy to carry on a bike as well. Combine illegal green laning and telescopic rod fishing and you've potentially got a really quick means of getaway.

If you are ever seen guddling on the Spey, Tay or any of our great rivers our gillies will shoot at you.

Very Happy

I know of a hedgerow next to the River Blyth which is stacked full of decent fishing rods.
They've been abandoned when a river bailiff was spotted and left behind.
I'd take the lot but knowing my luck a bailiff will be watching and I'll lose everything I own if they can prove it was used to poach or was bought from profits made by poaching..

I’d really like to see a write up about one of your exploits of going fishing with the motorbike. Thumbs Up
