Morning all,

So I've had a flyscreen on my other bike for a while and it's solid as a rock regardless of speed. I've now fitted a (cheaper) Puig Next Generation screen to my ER5 and it wobbles rather a lot! The screen itself is noticeably more flexible than my Dart flyscreen (doubtless down to the size though, it is bigger than the Dart) and even at 30mph there's quite a bit of movement from it. The mounts are solidly attached; it just appears to be flex in the plastic. Is this normal? I'm half tempted to try and fabricate some sort of support for it (it's only intended to be held on by the headlight bolts though).

Just wondering if anyone else experiences this and/or if this is normal behaviour for screens?

Cheers

Is it at the top of the screen, ie flexes / twists. Some of the Puig have air vents lower down to rush the air under it to equalise the pressure.
Or may be try an aero foil near the top, or finish the top of the screen with a soft point if it is say a flat topped one.
Many an experiment has been undertaken with screen mods.

The top is where it's noticeable, but the whole screen is far from rigid (which I think is the problem!). I can live with the wobbles, I'm just conscious that it might fatigue the plastic, particularly where the mounting screws are.

The other option I considered was to tilt it further back so I could use the two self-adhesive foam discs to support it against the instruments (they are included in the parts for the screen, but not shown on any of the diagrams bizarrely). It's a bit of a faff to adjust though as I have to open up the headlight to get to the captive nut. I will ride home on the motorway tonight and see how it is at higher speeds.

I've fitted a few after market screens to bikes over the years but never had that problem.

I've had problems with the deflected wind flow causing buffeting which in some cases was even worse than having no screen.

Play around with the angle as you mentioned and try it at different speeds but TBH I've never found after market ones to be a patch on manufacturers screens that have been designed for the bike.

Can you post pictures, especially of the mounting arrangements?

Here are some photos. The cable tie is there as a "backup" restraint and isn't actually holding it on (I don't have much faith in slot-type fixings!) in case it works loose somehow.

Now I look at those photos, I reckon it might be angled up a bit too much. I also think looking at that photo that angling it back a bit would make the foam discs about the right size to support the screen off the back of the clocks . . .

Is it worth a email to the manufacturer, see if they can offer anymore information,
Good time to also point out the poor instructions.

Yeah I have done this, although given the pidgin English on their website (Spanish company) I'm not hopeful of a useful reply!

Yep, so adjusted it so it rests on the clocks with the supplied foam pads - while I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say it's rock solid, it's miles better than before and completely acceptable. Unfortunately not quite as protective now the angle has been raked back, but it is only a small screen at the end of the day.

Cheers y'all. Thumbs Up
