I've just half heard it on the radio.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-48564995
(apologies for BBC link)
So at what point do they differentiate between tyre noise and engine noise?
What if a loud sound is near you and then weeks later you get a ticket and not the louder machine?
Can we have them for aircraft with no silencers please (those little hobby noisy twats) and so on.
And to quote:
'Dr Jonathan Moore, who chairs a campaign group lobbying to reduce noise along the A32 in the South Downs National Park, said people are "thoroughly fed up" with motorcyclists who drive through villages "hundreds of times a year" at anti-social hours.'
That's right folks - motorcycles have a separate rule whereby they're not allowed to be used at certain times of the day/night.
This is stupid government doing stupid stuff. It's all OK though because it brings in revenue. ____________________ CCM 404 DS |

This I agree with, it'll take at least 5-10 years, if not longer, by which time a high percentage of new vehicles will be electric, and, thus quiet anyhow !! ____________________ Beware what photos you upload, or link to on here, especially if you have family members on them |

95% of cars on the road are whisper quiet already, even w/ ICEs. Yes, they will become even quieter if - IF - electrics become predominant. However at this point it's marginal acoustic gains. I'd bet decent money that by far the biggest noise losses have already been achieved in, say, the past decade or two. At this point it's probably road surfaces i.e. tyre noise that're the biggest culprits. Softer compound on smoother, better constructed (i.e. not granite chip dressed) surfaces could well make for greater noise loss than going from a nice, quiet ICE to an electric. Fuck knows - I'm just chucking that out there. ____________________ "Life is a sexually transmitted disease and the mortality rate is one hundred percent."

What's the betting these sound cameras also take a recording of speed somehow? ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

I would say it's obvious that noise increases awareness of your presence by other road users, but if you needed an example they're debating installing noise generating turbines in EVs for this very reason. I don't really think its contestible to say otherwise although granted there are mitigating circumstances. |

Loud pipes for the sake of loud pipes? Nah. Certain engines sound nice with a free-flowing exhaust, others (a lot of chavvy cars imo) just sound like wet farts.
And on that, at least a noisy, speeding motorcycle tends to be past and gone quickly, whereas the aforementioned chavmobiles seem to linger on the nerves forever.
But hey, I very much doubt that this will affect me much - all good fun for the next generations; enjoy! ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

They're testing it...
And what they'll find is ppl slowing down near the cameras to reduce noise just the same way they do with speed cameras.
