I thought it was using it so fast it hardly stays in there for 5 minutes?

However, I'm using Frost Ethomix for the ethanol content for my 1991 bike but it acts as a stabiliser too.

Esso super unleaded petrol (Synergy Supreme+ Unleaded 97) is ethanol free (except in Devon, Cornwall, the Teesside area and Scotland). We would therefore advise anyone who has concerns about the presence of ethanol in petrol to use Synergy Supreme+ – providing they do not fill up in Devon or Cornwall, the Teesside area or Scotland.

it's all I use because ethanol free

I know that this is looking like a spergy sock account asking stupid questions, but I'll bite.

Why do you want to use fuel stabiliser? Its only required if:
1. The bike is being laid up for a very long time.
2. The bike is one of the very few out there that actually suffers from ethanol in fuel.

I laid the Kawasaki up for several years before refurbishing it. I switched the fuel tap to 'OFF', ran the engine until it drained the carbs, brimmed the tank and added 100mL or so of Silkolene Pro FST. It is mostly iso-propanol (propan-2-ol) and I had it in the garage because it combats carb-icing, so I just chucked some in. I'm not convinced it "stabilised" anything though. After several years I drained the tank, filtered the contents through a cloth and decanted a couple of mugs-worth of the tea-coloured (aqueous) lower layer to waste, then put the clean supernatant (the petroleum top layer) into the full tank of my car, to no effect. The bike's tank had light rust speckling inside but I think it had that before. I changed the fuel filter and ran the bike. It had a long-standing flat spot at 9k which I later fixed by replacing the Dynojet needles and jets with new ones, and although the needles were fluffy-white with corrosion I don't relate that problem to the lay-up. If I did this again I'd consider draining the tank and spraying oil in to keep corrosion at bay. In short, a long lay-up (outside) didn't induce particular problems.

We all know this is a pointless thread and fuel stabiliser is not required, but what the hell. Silkolene pro FST. Pour it in, brim the tank with fresh petrol, and let the engine run for a few minutes to make sure it is distributed throughout the fuel system.

If you are laying it up for a year or more, it is also worth doing all of the other long term layup things - oil change beforehand, battery out and put on a trickle charger from time to time, wheels off the ground, brake fluid changed after the layup, and airbox intake covered up to prevent things nesting in there. Maybe a squirt of oil down the bores and rotate the engine by hand as well.

OK, It's the alcohol bit that is confusing me.

1) Brim the tank with super unleaded (no Ethanol) fuel
2) Add Silkolene FST (> 50% IsoPropyl Alchohol)

So we know that in a part empty tank condensation can form during storage this trickles down to the bottom of the tank (denser) and may promote corrosion on the bottom of tank - which frankly is the greater of all storage problems - isn't it?

Therefore if you have a part filled tank having alchohol/ethanol to absorb the condensation from the air it is a good thing isn't it?

FWIW I try and seal the top of my tank with polythene (to prevent humid air) and then lag with a blanket. No idea if it works but it makes me feel better..
