Disc lock causes fall.

Well that’s me had the off due to forgetting about the disc lock.
Packed London street and my VFR and me laid out in the middle of it.
To add to it a lad from work was walking past so once he’d stopped laughing he gave me a hand.

Only damage is the brake lever.

Oh dear, personally the the pennies I've spent on a "reminder" cable is about the best £2 I've ever spent on a bike

I like the sound of that!

Along the lines of your "reminder tube" you can get cheap fake keys with a "Don't forget to remove the disc lock!" keyfobs but I always figure they'll get nicked by kids if you're out and about. Fine idea at home though.

The poncy reminder cable acts as a theft deterrent as well. Used one for years.
That said, my disc lock is an £8 ebay job with an alarm that doesnt work anymore

Yup been there done it. I was lucky in that I was using my feet to push the bike backwards whilst sat on it.
Nothing broken, just pride. I'd left the coiled yellow string in the bike shed..

Always put the disc lock on the back of the disc just below the caliper, not the front. That way you cannot get up any momentum if you try to pull away with it fitted.

done it once, was lucky not to drop the bike or warp the disc. I found if you put the lock as close as you can to the brake caliper you cant go far enough to forget, bike moves an inch and it stops.

And I do use a reminder now.

If you put it on the back wheel, you won't fall off even if you do forget about it, you'll just do a very short skid.

Why are people hating on reminder cables? I cant say I've ever been so insecure in myself that I've worried people might think a bit of yellow cable to remind me the lock is there is "faggy". Way less effort than a random bit of plastic tube on your key you have to remember to carry around and not lose.

Remember: reminder cables are for everyone's benefit! If the thieves forget to smash off the disc lock if the police ever recover it there's a mangled brake to fix too
