Morning all.

Are fork seals generic, ie just need to be the right size (which are hopefully fairly standard!), or are they manufacturer specific? It’s for my ER5 (so normal, not USD, forks).

Cheers

Specific per bike (although the same forks may be duplicated between models) is my understanding.
I wouldn’t skimp and get pattern one for seals either personally, I can’t see oe being silly expensive.

Cheers. Yeah not for skimping it was more about getting some today rather than online ordering!

They are almost all a standard size, whether they're for static (e.g. "O" ring type), rotary (e.g. crankstaft, gearbox) or reciprocating (e.g. forks). There are all sorts of designs/features for various applications including forks. If you look at the seal, you may be able to read the size/type off it. Look at info from SKF, simplybearings and others.

It looks as though (but don't quote me) you'll need a 37x50x11 double-lipped seal and a wiper seal per leg. You can poke about on t'internet and find stuff, e.g.:

https://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/p34096/37x50x11DC4SS-Metric-Fork-&-Damper-Nitrile-Rubber-Oil-Seal-with-2-Opposite-Facing-Individually-Sprung-Sealing-Lips-&-Raised-Outer-Sealing-Band-on-Outside-Diameter/product_info.html

Not sure about weekend opening time for stockists though!

Theoretically, they just need to be the right size.

In practice, having done many sets over the years, genuine seals are far more likely to work. Your local dealer may even have them in stock.

Replacing the bushes is also highly recommended.
