The cbr600f is feeling a bit lonely, and I was originally looking at rsv1000's, but I think for about a grand down plus the monthlies I could 'upgrade' to an Rsv4 or V4 Tuono 1000cc.

Reliability fears over APRC and high miles in general on Aprilia has made me pause in my tracks.

No doubt a V4 soundtrack and tons of torque would make the heart overrule the head so before sitting on one tell me what to look out for, or why a KTM RC8 would be a better bet. Wink

I'm edging towards the Tuono because street rather than race.

I will not stop you, I had a very short ride on one a few weeks ago.

They are magnificent.

If it was reliability I was looking for, neither of those would tick the box.

The RC8 is the most uncomfortable torture rack I've ever had the pleasure to try... nah.

As far as V4 comes into it, I've seen multiple returns with valve issues. Buy one if you like it but I wouldn't. I'd probably get something fun but different to a sporty type bike, Husky 701 etc.

A mate has a tuono V4. Three other mates, all competant and competative motorcycle racers had a go and declared it (and I paraphrase here) "a bit much".

I also know for a fact they all had a go with the electronic rider aids turned off and all stopped after about a mile to turn them back on again.

talking tuonos ive never ridden the rsv4.
the 1000 cc v4 used to eat thier own heads in spetacular fashon.
but if its got a few miles on it then it would have eaten itself by now.
the early ones had a small fuel tank and poor mpg which meant you never got a numb arse because you were always stopping to refuel.
the 1100 is supposedly revised to fix all the reliability problems, got a bigger tank .the factory gets some posh ohlins and some different electrics.the RR is fine though and a good chunk cheaper.
get good breakdown cover and enjoy one of the best fun bikes money can buy.

I'm not stopping you. Cash is the only thing stopping me getting a Tuono, I think the RSV4 would kill my back and/or license.

Tthey're amazeballs - I rode a 2016. Just make sure it's not an "only" bike if you must have a running/working bike - I'll be keeping a commuter as well when I get one.

I thought the RC8 was super adjustable everything, but the plank seat yeah I get that.

Valve trouble, v4 hard to fettle at the recommended intervals, is that why?

I don't see many high milers for sale, the one rsv4 up for auction near me has 'a rough sounding engine mate' - I was gone before he offered to start it.

This is my main worry as replacing the engine would be expensive.

The valves started munching into the heads. Just italian init.

Try a KTM. I was almost set on one before my GSXR, it was a lovely looking bike and sounded fucking brutal. It rode like a plank, felt like a plank and after trying to nurse the revs on and it just bucked like a wild thing, I figured I'll go with what I felt was better.
