Morning All,

My speedo died on my way to work this morning, took it apart in the car park and the cable has completely snapped where it goes into the dash unit.

This is my first 'bike' so it's all new to me, but how universal are these cables? My bike is a 2011 Yamaha Vity, I've had a poke around online and can't find any specs for the cable and the only Vity specific one's I can find are used one's on eBay.

Am I going to have to get one of the used ones? Or can I pick up an alternative from CMPO or a local garage?

Cheers

They're not universal.

Tried Fowlers?

Think this is it ... https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/parts/view/4P7H355001

Cheers guys, I was struggling, but I was looking on my phone.

I'll give my local yam dealer a bell and see if they have any in but I'll order one from these if not.

I'd be inclined to buy one & fit it, which should not be too difficult. Just make sure it's not forced around any sharp corners.

I've ordered one from Fowlers and paid through the nose for saturday delivery.

I figured that £10 postage is cheaper than getting flashed by one of the many speed cameras on my commute.

I never ordered specific ones. I just got the same length and ends cable and it always worked.

I have sometimes resorted to brazing the ends of the broken inner together Smile That works, too.

Seriously?! Just use Google Maps for speed indication, probably more accurate than your speedo Very Happy

That did cross my mind, I’m a cyclist too so I was going to strap my Garmin to the dash somehow, but there’s no bar showing on the VITY, so it would be a proper bodge.

I’m trying to keep it in as good nick as possible so I can get shot of it when I can convince the Mrs I need a proper bike. It needs the front brake sorting too soon, it’s got a right pulse on it.

Cable changed, cheers all. It was a surprisingly simple job, it's amazing me how easy these things are to work on. Might have a crack at my car next based on this. The hardest part was taking the front panels off, I wondered why I'd always liked naked bikes.
