Warning: Only very mildly interesting. No "Wow! That's so cool!" here...more of a "uhhh..right, ok"

Just watched the last Top Gear, the bit with the Supras, and realised we passed where they were filming at the time. Me, my lad and his mate were out for the day in Wales, going over the Brecon Beacons, and were stopped for a while on the road they were filming on. Didn't know it was TG at the time. Fantastic road, and being at the head of the queue, had it pretty much to ourselves.

Vid for proof if proof be need be: https://youtu.be/ZrAVuudaIAo

Added pigeon smash bonus at the end. Earlier in the day some silly pigeon flew out, hit my left hand and basically exploded, leaving me covered in some weird, brown, earthy material i can only guess was shit. Can't really see the smash, only the curtain of feathers left hanging in the air. In fact, now it's uploaded i see you can hardly see them anyway. Fuck it. It's up now.

See, i told you there was nothing exciting here! Neutral

Approximately one thousand years ago I was trundling up the M1 in a Transit van (as a passenger) and three posh cars (including a McLaren of some sort) went past us at a reasonable speed with a Discovery camera car just about keeping up. That was a TG shoot too but I never saw the clip, although the episode appeared with those motors in it. Guess it didn't make the cut.

Whatya think of the 'new TG?

I used to work for a private ambulace co based at Dunsfold Park many, many moons ago. Could see the building when they filmed cars on the track. All companies were under strict instruction not to put up advertising banners.
The haulage company based next door would just so happen to have a fully liveried truck driving round the perimiter road whener they were filming. Purely coincidental, innit.

Did a shift filming for a DVD 'game' Hammond was part of. Nice enough chap. Was pretty interested in the Defender Rescue Ambulance we were using... That was the day the pyro crew nearly killed a camera man. Light fading, one take went wrong, this one needed to work. Cue lots of explosives loaded into a caravan... BANG - Everyone except the cameraman ran. He was pelted with bits of plywood and insurlation. That's dedication! Laughing

A good few years ago now, me, the wife and the kid were in the car, driving back to rotherham from Sheffield, when I noticed a weird Reliant Robin (or whatever the purists call them). I pointed out to the mrs that it looked weird because it had modifications on it, but not necessarily good ones, more ones to pick it back up if it rolled.

A few months later, and the TG one where they were driving (and rolling) RR's around Rotherham and the surrounding areas, and our car is in the background, driving down Meadowbank Road.

And then, about three years ago, Me, my brother, an old mate and a mate of my brother all went to a taping of TG. It was ultimately Chris Evans' last show (he was a little bitch when the cameras weren't on), and we got to see two lots of interviews as the filming was running over. I am stood behind Matt LeBlanc and some lovely Ford Mustangs, if anyone ever checks it out. Fat bloke, goatee, red Dickies t-shirt.

That BMW mishmash is NOT your Supra. It is not even close to a real Supra.

Monkey Harris nailed it with the critique.

It's horrible isn't it!
For me it's only the mk2 and mk3 Supras that have any potential to look really nice. The overrated and overpriced mk4 isn't anything special either except for the engine, but then a Nissan RB26 or RB30 sounds better anyway.

I would walk straight past the cleanest mk4 Supra and R34 Skyline to get into a nice Mitsubishi GTO every time! Then again I'd go floppy over even the mighty GTO if there was an NSX to jizz all over next to it.

I do love a GTO. Problem being, whilst I get the mk4 supra dislike (I don't really, but lets say I do) it has just flew up in price and people love it too much to part with and others definitely aren't able to buy (too sensible to drop 15k on a '94 500hp car)

Its a shame, its truly a lovely car, a bit heavy but thats easy 600hp on stock for little cash Laughing Price to turbo mine (NA to single) with base gasket change, FMIC, decent turbo and mani, dyno and mapping was £2600 with a bit of a discount/trade in on NA parts. I bought mine for £2880 so for less than £6000 all in, it was around 640hp. Laughing

Sounds like it was the good old days when you had your mk4 then. And it's far more sensible to go NA to low pressure turbo than pay the price for the that twin snail version of the 2JZ.

The dislike of the mk4 for me is partly because the way the prices have gone batshit and also because it went the tacky poster car of the nasty body kitted and neon pink stripe era of F&F. I never saw a GTO in any of the movies, so they are alright with me!

Oh and I might be still a little butt hurt as 15years ago I had a great chance to part ex my MGF for one of the last GTO's a one owner UK spec one with 33k on the clock. Like a twat I passed up on the chance and I was bitter and twisted forever more! Laughing

I'd much prefer another NA > big single rather than the prices of current twins and singles. It is always cheaper to get someone to just build it with bolt ons.

I've seen 2 GTOs, both next to a mint NSX and R32... was a good day Laughing

I was fishing through a hole in the ice off the coat of Greenland a few years ago when JC and Captain Slow drove past in a specially prepared Hilux. They were on the way to someplace.

And yet for me, the Mk4 Supra is the one i'd love. Mind you, you'd get 3 tidy ones for the price of ONE NSX these days.

240/260Z lovely - but good luck finding a bargain.

Gen3 Prelude - lovely but rotten now.

EG Civic VTI - ruined and / or rotten

Subaru SVX could tempt me ... but spares / parts etc

So i think i'll stick to looking at them at shows and things and keep the bike / Fiesta ST. Quite tempted by a 2.3 EcoBoost Focus RS though.

i always wanted a mk4 just because a relative had one until they sold it in 2008 for roughly 10k, and is my only experience of a genuinely fast car.

nowadays though, they are just silly money for something that will no doubt end up being a rot bucket money pit. I'd rather a 911 nowadays for the money.

they also tend to attract a high number of mongos.

If I just wanted a second fun car for no practical use, I'd so much rather have a TVR Cerbera or similar. If you want a silly fun car then seeing as we're on the down slope of the ICE, you might as well have a car with Gods own engine configuration.

I'm certain that if I ever buy a fun car in the future then it needs to have a V8, as opposed to (woosh, hiss, pop, bang, psssst).
Turbos were interesting before every car had one or more, and also in the days of more primative EFI and cable operated throttle bodies.

All this new car peak torque from 2000-4500rpm and max power from 4200-6200pm business with seamlessly smooth delivery is as boring as fuck.

Elise S1 - all day long. Prices going one way only and as a weekend toy, unbeatable.

Unless you can find a GTM Libra V6 that has been built properly.

Never seen one of those before.
But the KV6, while not sounding as good as a larger Alfa busso engine, is still a nice thing to listen to and I think sounds better than the Vauxhall Ecotec V6, and most European V6's.

Yes - the NC700/750 is basically half a Jazz with 2 less wheels.
