PostPosted: 22:56 - 27 Jul 2019    Post subject: Helmet amplification Reply with quote

I have blue tooth speakers in my helmet, when I'm riding I can't hear shit. So I upgraded to 32 ohm speakers. While they are a bit better, I still can't hear clearly any music or calls. Does anyone know how to amplify the sound in tge helmet.

Thanks guys
Chaza

With a cheap headset the biggest difference in volume is achieved by tweaking the positioning of the speakers in my experience. The more expensive headsets seem to provide more amplification as standard.

Assuming it's all standard 3.5mm jack's you could rig something up with a battery headphone amplifier, but it'd be a bit of a faff with long cables and stuff.

I do not recommend any interference whilst riding a bike, you need 100% concentration for maximum self preservation with morons on the road today. There is only one loser.

Maybe you need a quieter bike or better helmet or fit a windscreen instead?

Apart from any distraction issues, pumping up the volume may harm your ears

^^ Jesus H Christ this... you listening to music while riding?! WTF? The only song you need to hear is from the bike and if that tune's not to your liking then you either need a different bike or maybe an exhaust upgrade.

You might be shocked by how many people listen to music while riding.

You misunderstood my post, I don't advocate blasting out music while I'm driving. But I do want to hear the traffic news or a phone call coming in, which can be done with complete safety. My question therefore is still valid. Don't assume I'm some headbanging nut job on a bike, we have enough of them right now.
All I wanted to know if there is some way to give me more volumn so I can achieve that satisfactory level.
The bike is as quiet as it should be,

Thank guys

I have earplug style earphones, and I can hear more with those in and a podcast going than I can with earplugs, or even worse and more importantly without.

I have tried the ear pieces. I cant keep them in when i put my helmet on. My helmet is medium. But it is a bit loose. Im going to try with my small helmet and fit the ear and mike set.
I did buy an amplifier for the job. It boosted the volumn by 50%. On the ear plugs but not on my helmet speakers. So thats why im asking if there is something around for the job

I couldn't agree less. I have a lairy bike, with a lairier fire spitting exhaust and I still love a bit of Pantera played
loud enough to hear through earplugs. I remember one such occasion last year chasing Fisty on his Busa round some
twisties on the way out to Henstridge. Fucking Hostile!!!

I ride with headphones, I can't get on with speakers (I cba with the faff) and I have them pretty much all the way up.

HardlyGayvidson, my bike sounds fucking amazing, but doing 130mph is gonna be gash without some Infected Mushroom.

Mines a Sena 10S plumbed into my Shark Speed R. The supplied speakers are fine, for me it was getting them
flat against my ear that mattered, the Sena comes with all sorts of foam spacers to accomplish this.

+1 for headphones over fitted pads. Get a much better reduction in the rushing sound from around helmet. Can't say I like making phone calls on the bike, however, if I can't (like grr666) blat around country roads to the delicate sound of Mr Anselmo and the late, great Keith Flint, I'll stop riding. Its personal choice to listen to music, some like, some don't. If you can't feel what the bike is doing, then you have a problem.

As suggested /\ try to mount the speakers so the noise hammers straight doon yer lug holes.

Wearing a thin silk or cotton balaclava after you put the ear pieces in may prevent dislodging them apparently.
BTW I wouldn’t have any thing like that whilst riding.....intercoms are bad enough!

Another vote for headphones/earbuds/IEM (in ear monitors) if your communicator is able to take a 3.5mm jack, Shure probably make the best isolating ones, if they are good enough for most musicians to use on stage, with right tips will stay in most ears and don't stick out of your ear enough to foul the helmet, or you can have custom moulds made, like the F1 drivers, commentators etc, they all pretty much use Shure, avoid the SE112, different design, models from SE215 upwards, SE 425 has detachable cable, can be replaced if it breaks or different cables can be used instead,, ie apple lightning, one with mic, or even a BT one.

As for playing music, just as in the car, when you need to concentrate you automatically filter it out, and you can still hear what you need to, horns, sirens etc I wouldn't be without, I have playlists just for bike riding.
